Reports of a possible ‘helicopter crash’ west of Melbourne are incorrect, with a Channel Seven helicopter now understood to have landed near a controlled burn-off.
The Age reported emergency crews were responding to reports of a helicopter crash near Melton.
But 3AW later reported from some angles, it may have appeared to witnesses as though the chopper was alight upon landing.
Four CFA units were sent to the scene.
“Paramedics called to an incident in Brookfield. Appears nothing more than a grass fire. Paramedics cleared scene,” said Ambulance Victoria via Twitter.
The Age later updated to a “false alarm.”

Interesting to hear the same chopper was ‘involved’ with an issue at fire brigade rescue later in the day.
Their chopper noise was stopping emergency services from communicating clearly 🙁
When asked they said ‘they will move on when they have finished’
Also the Melb chopper is white (VH-HSV)

NSW is red (as illustrated)

Did not mean to imply this was the actual chopper. It’s a Seven chopper.
Media Watch is over for the year
How do you confuse a chopper landing & one crashing?
MediaWatch is off for three months. Supposedly until “mid-Feb”. What do the MediaWatch people do in the meantime? Can I get a job at the ABC that gives me three months holidays? How many people does it take to produce 15 minutes each week?
Kenny: What you call 3 months without pay a ‘holiday’ others would call ‘short term contract’ or even ‘being stood down.’
MediaWatch Tonight 🙂
