Deborah Knight let go by TEN

Deborah Knight parts ways with TEN after 13 years with the network.

Last month a spokeswoman for TEN said: “We are working with Deb Knight to identify the right project for her talents,” but today the former TEN News presenter is reported to have parted ways with the network.

Knight was a co-presenter on TEN’s Sydney News bulletin until Sandra Sully assumed the role when the network axed its long-running late night News.

She was with TEN for 13 years as a reporter and newsreader, with stints in Canberra and Los Angeles.

The Australian reports she offered to go back on the road or take another role, but TEN executives chose to let her go.

She also had to audition for a role on Breakfast, but was unsuccessful.

Industry sources said she was being considered for jobs at other networks.

Melbourne presenter George Donikian recently left TEN after 20 years with the network, following on-going changes to the presenting line-up while the contract for Ron Wilson will not be renewed.

  1. Will really miss your work on TEN Deb. Their loss but what a shame it has come to this. All the best from your many loyal and adoring viewers. We’re all so upset by this.

  2. Another huge mistake by Ten. Deb Knight is a excellent newsreader and journalist.
Said it before and I will say it again, Ten should never have messed with the news. Ten News at 5pm needs to go back to an hour in length as the last 30mins is nothing but a waste of time. Tens Late News needs to come back.

I’m a huge Sandra Sully fan but her talents are wasted at 5pm. Bill Woods is so bland and boring that it makes Sandra look uncomfortable. If Ten persist with the current format, then at the very least give Bill the flick and put Brad McEwen as Sandra’s cohost. The excuse that the Late News was axed due to low ratings is laughable considering it was, when telecast at 10:30pm, one of Tens strongest performers.

The night of Gadaffi’s death was a timely reminder that commercial tv requires a late night news. Having to wait until 8 hrs after his death for the story is disgraceful in this day and age.

  3. The only time ch.9 was tops in the news…..was when they had a long standing newsreader….Brian Henderson….perhaps all should learn from history….
    Consistency….reliability.

  4. I hope both Deb and especially Ron find another network who will appreciate their talents a bit more.

You don’t need to look any further to know that there is zero loyalty in television.

I certainly do not watch Ten News any more.

  5. Really? I don’t get it at all. Sandra i love by herself but it should have been Bill Woods that was let go. He just does not have that personality. Goodbye Ten news. Deb who knows Sunrise with Kochie?

  6. She was a fantastic talent on the 5pm news, her interaction with the rest of the team made it worth watching. Deb you will be sadly missed and u will be a missed talent on the news circuit.

  7. @ Chris,it was the old management that created this complete news disaster, and I’m sure They shafted plenty of long term, loyal employees along the way!

  8. God i hope she ends up at ABC News 24. I think Scott Bevan used to be at Ten back in the day now hes at the ABC, although considering what happened to Tracy Spicer who is now at SKY News i wouldnt be surprised if she ends up on pay tv. As said earlier i dearly want her to go to ABC or Nine anywhere but SKY. Also Deb is still hot hot hot, one of the sexiest female news readers in this country, i would definetly watch the news more if she was presenting more, her very good jouralism not with standing.

  9. I recon she would be suited well at Seven but Seven have enough news readers already which is a shame. The only way they could use her is if they decided to do an 11:30pm Late News which i think is lacking in this country.

I guess we will see but TEN are morons for letting her go. She will more than likely end up either at ABC or Sky News?

  10. TvScene. The TEN Board approved all the changes to the news formats and AFAIK they are all still there. It was a gamble which didn’t pay off. TEN is well known for taking risks, some work, some don’t , it’s the nature of the beast.
Many Radio and TV Stars play Network musical chairs at Xmas, I expect that Deb, Ron and George will each find an empty chair somewhere.

  11. Is anybody safe at TEN??

She would’ve been great on Breakfast! The fact that she was even willing to do it should have been enough to give her the job. Hope she finds work with a company that will respect her a bit more. I remember thinking the same thing after the Tracey Spicer incident a few years back..

  12. ..as the slogan goes “Seriously.. Ten!”

I predicted years ago that if Ch10 don’t kick the monkeys/yes men outta place they’ll be struggling to compete with the ABC! ..and now thats exactly whats happening!.

  13. What I don’t understand is who at Ten ever thought they should have a crack at lifting their News and current affairs profile? They were chugging along nicely in the background and then someone made these ridiculous decisions and extended bulletins, put on more staff and flooded us with mediocre news services. The most expensive way of producing television too.

Lachlan came along and (rightly) undid all that. But the question remains who, who, who allowed this mess to happen in the first place? One assumes they are no longer with Ten. But so many people have been affected now, from on-air talent right down the chain to producers, cameramen, editors, floor crews, many of whom had been with Ten for many, many years. A travesty.
