Airdate: Uptown Downstairs Abbey

ABC sure has a sense of humour, screening Jennifer Saunders' spoof of Downton Abbey.

ABC sure has a sense of humour.

How else to explain them scheduling Uptown Downstairs Abbey?

The spoof of Downton Abbey stars Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley and Kim Cattrell and will screen at 8:20pm Sunday January 15, following the 50 minute Grand Designs.

Given it sends up the whole genre celebrated by ABC’s Sunday nights, it’s doubly amusing. But it will also work well given Saunders’ new Ab Fab is coming…

Of course it’s already been available on YouTube.

  1. Brilliant ABC. One of the funniest skits ever. Sadly then totally ruins Downton Abbey which can’t be viewed in the same way ever again. Are they showing both episodes? ‘here’s the chamber maid, parlour maid, over maid, handmade and made in china’. Brilliant writing.

  2. Golly gosh no need to bite my head off people. It was just a comment hardly a “complaint”. OK if it is a 10-minute program I sincerely apologise for my ignorance. Chill out… it’s Friday…

  3. Amazing what people manage to complain about here.

Andrew, half the reason for airing Uptown Downstairs Abbey in the first place is because they want to start the next program on the half hour. Maybe you’d prefer the preceding Grand Designs to be filled with ad breaks, or played in slow-motion? I don’t know what’s 1970s about filler programs…

  4. @Andrew – why must programs only start on the half-hour – don’t the clocks in your house show the minutes? Why should I have to wait an extra 10 minutes and sit thru unnecessary filler?

  5. 8.20? Come on ABC enough of the 1970s scheduling… you can start shows on the half-hour surely? Throw in a newsbreak or a snippet of Spicks and Specks or something to fill ten measly minutes.
