His run for the 2012 Australian Open may be over but Lleyton Hewitt will join the Seven commentary team tonight for the match featuring Novak Djokovic and Spain’s David Ferrer.
Hewitt joins Bruce McAvaney and Jim Courier in the courtside commentary box. He will also feature in commentary in the men’s semi finals and men’s final.
Seven Head of Sport Saul Shtein said, “Lleyton delivered outstanding insights for our viewers last year with current knowledge. It’s the next best thing to having him playing in the tournament. We can’t wait.”
Hewitt also featured as part of Seven’s 2011 commentary team.

I think it will come as a surprise to most people that Lleyton is actually a good commentator – better than past special guest commentators.
Hopefully everyone can separate Lleyton the player and Lleyton the commentator because he has a massive future calling matches. He has always had a great tennis mind and showed it to perfection last year, both at the Hopman Cup and the Aussie Open. Looking forward to it.
I actually like Lleyton better in commentary than as a player. He was pretty decent last year. And if this means no Roger Rasheed then even better.
