Well done to Nine for turning a negative into a positive.

After John Singleton branded Paul ‘Fatty’ Vautin an “average host” and an “average player” Nine has produced a commercial for the NRL Footy Show that turns the remarks into a cheeky plug.

Double ironic given the remarks came from an ad man.

“Fatty deserves our loyalty,” executive producer Glenn Pallister told News Limited. “We’ve done the ad as a reminder that Fatty and the show is back on March 1.”

  1. I actually enjoy the NRL Footy Show and I’m a Victorian AFL guy. Just like seeing Fatty stuff up and Mario. I haven’t watched it for a year or so though.

    1. As usual a ridiculous AFL/NRL stoush comes out of the woodwork and begins to sling mud. Boring.

      I’m approving comments on NRL Footy Show and ones that don’t start attacking other readers. Take your other feuds elsewhere thanks.

  3. real problem is what would replace it i.e what NRL based comedy show could takeover. it seems there really is nothing viable so they are sticking with the old stuff (better the devil you know thing). the afl footy show is nothing special but appears as a masterpiece next to the nrl version. the old guys and their jokes are just too old for most people to bother

  9. This isn’t clever, or original. They used the same tactic years ago for the Mick Molloy show, something along the lines of ‘get yourself couch side and see what the controversey is all about’.

    We all know how well that worked out!

  10. @ Bill Murray: “Perfect TV?” Now come on Bill. I would say as the promo says, it is average and so are the audience numbers, well no, they are below average.

  12. Nine’s new marketing strategy :the average network with heaps of average shows and average performers. Average news and average drama. I wonder if this will come back to bite them?

  15. Actually a very good ad by Nine. I don’t watch the AFL footy show, prefer the NRL version. But i really liked The Matty Johns show. Matty Johns hosting the The Footy Show would be so much better.

  16. The footy show is perfect TV. Fatty is an all time legend. AFL is a rubbish sport hence why the only thing close to it on an international level is Gaelic football. Which is also rubbish
