Australian EastEnders fans won’t have to wait as long for all the latest twists and turns as UKTV begins screening double episodes.
That will leave the soap just one month behind the UK.
Double eps will air every Monday to Thursday night from January 23rd at 6.30pm until mid April.
Set in the fictional borough of Walford in the East End of London, the ups and downs of the lives of the residents of Albert Square – not to mention the dodgy deals, thwarted romances, kidnapped babies and occasional murder – have been keeping UKTV viewers hooked on the show since the channel launched in 1996. Now
Deirdre Brennan, Director of Television, BBC Worldwide Australia said: “EastEnders is our number one show. I’m delighted to be able to give our soap savvy fans a double-helping from the Square as we close the gap on the UK. With Mandy’s unlikely romance with Ian, Tyler’s determined attempts to woo Whitney and mayhem at the Moon’s there’s plenty for them to enjoy.”
A brand new dedicated fansite (www.bbcaustralia.com/eastenders) will launch to coincide with the double eps. Fans will be able to view catch-up and preview clips of the latest eps plus special behind-the-scenes interviews and have opportunities to interact with other EastEnders fans.

Not to mention Law & Order: UK Series 1 – 3, as well as Secret Diary of a Call Girl Series 1 – 4
Emmerdale will air at an earlier time, then Coronation Street after that, then double EastEnders! UKTV should also have Got to Dance Series 3 Live, and moved from FOX8, as well as The X Factor and Balls of Steel
So does that mean UKTV will be dropping Emmerdale?
This is good news. Funny I was just thinking yesterday, that It would be good if UKTV did some thing to lessen the gap. I was thinking maybe an ep on Friday, now my only problem will be finding the time to watch all the eps.
it’ll be great to have EE up to date, look forward to the website too, hope they do one for coronation street
Awesome news! The more EE the merrier. (Although ‘merry’ and ‘EE’ don’t generally go together)
about time too!! for those who dont, or cannot watch at british pace there is no reason why fans should have to wait for months on end for eps.
