It’s nice to be able to bring you a good news story….

Seven Network stars, and even a few rivals, gathered for Journos Jam fundraiser on Thursday night for Today Tonight reporter Sally Obermeder, who is undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

500 guests gathered at the Beresford Hotel in an event organised by The Morning Show executive producer Sarah Stinson.

In attendance were Peter Meakin, David and Libby Koch, Kyle Gillies, Tim Webster, Lucie McGeoch, Angela Bishop, Michael Pell, Paul Ewart, Chloe Flynn, Grant Denyer, Mark Beirne, Katherine Field, Margaret Macarthur, Adene Cassidy, Nikki Andrews, Tahli Koch, Ros Reines, Kathy Ward, Peter O’Connell, Steve Carfino, Karen Eck, Chris Reason, Jonathan Moran and Matt White.

Larry Emdur was MC for the night with newsreader Ann Sanders selling raffle tickets and Brian McFadden singing. A Channel TEN band featured Bill Woods, Angela Bishop.

News Limited reports “there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when Obermeder shared her heartbreaking story of dealing with the brutal effects of chemotherapy and her steely determination to beat breast cancer for the sake of her husband and daughter.”

More than than $45,000 was raised in her honour.

“They tell you how hard chemo is but it’s a lot worse than I thought,”Obermeder said.

“It completely blows you to pieces. Basically those seven to 10 days (of treatment) feel the same as like — when you’re well and working — a month. You can’t sleep, you can’t lie down, you can’t swallow, it’s hard to breath, you can’t eat. You’re so sick, basically from head to toe, and there’s no relief.”

She is set to embark on another four months of chemo.

  1. The Morning Show showed highlights from the night on Friday’s show … was inspirational to see. And Gulianna Ransic (from E! News) who is also battling cancer had a personal message for Sally too.

  2. O…M….G….those last few sentences….just awful…..I soo wish her well and the strength to get through such an awful process….
Look at that picture…such a simply beautiful young woman…
Well done to all who got together for her!
