Nine ushers in its new Mornings

Nine's new look-morning show has launched and by the looks of things ran pretty smoothly.

Nine’s new look-morning show, simply titled Mornings, launched today and by the looks of things ran pretty smoothly.

If there were any nerves at all, David Campbell and Sonia Kruger, hid it very well with a relaxed and buoyant style.

The show utilises a pink and purple colours (that’s where the purple went!) creating a sibling show to Today.

In terms of format and feel the show could arguably be seen as a sibling to Seven’s The Morning Show with Campbell and Kruger looking to match Larry Emdur and Kylie Gillies.

There was a mix of showbiz, health, opinion, lifestyle, cooking and those darned advertorials.

It will now be up to the show to find its point of difference, and hopefully an audience.

Mornings is live everyday and tomorrow we’ll get a first look at the numbers.

Anybody else catch the first show?

  1. I agree with most of the comments here. The set is horrible and the show has no point of difference to The Morning Show at all. With new hosts and a new set, surely this was the perfect opportunity for them to do something a bit different. Boring.

  2. @OzJay – I agree, why is David Campbell wasting his talents doing this? But then again, why is Larry Emdur doing the same? Larry is absolutely hilarious – he should be in primetime somewhere – has a quick wit, interviews well, presents well. Give Larry a go at hosting something meaningful (as well as TMS).

  3. I was so excited for this!

I thought it was an amazing grab from Nine to get Sonia. After 30 minutes i wanted to lie down. The colour scheme is horrible, the set is pathetic, the show has no soul. They need a small audience even 20 people to give it a bit of feeling. And then they can interact and have fun. Bit like the circle does.

The year is only so young but who ever did the sets for Today and Mornings is in the runnings for worst performance of the year. Sooo bad, compare it to sunrise!

Anyway, hope it gets better as i do like Sonia. And regardless of what everyone goes on about the circle the ones left are the annoying ones. I cant stand them especially the nobody yummy

  4. I saw some snippets online and, contrary to what many others have said, I enjoyed it. Yes, its incredibly similar to TMS, and noone (not even Sonia and David) are denying that there are similarities.

What are you all wanting out of morning television? More of a UK-style interview show, or more of a ‘Martha-Stewart’ show? Many formats have tried and crumbled, so Nine are sticking to what they know could work.

At the end of the day, Sonia and (surprisingly!) David are very likeable personalities, and I will definitely give it another go.

Also a very slick set, nice job so far Nine!

  5. Why is David Campbell wasting his talent on this kind of crap? Get back to the theatre, lad – leave the TV presenting jobs to those who really need them … i.e. those with no discernible talent.

  6. So pleased I am not home to watch. David Campbell is not worth watching and Sonia was on 2day at 8.15am, so there was not much prep went into the show when she was on air at 9am.

  7. “I wake up with Sunrise, Today”
    “The Mronings show”.
    “Today A Current Affair Tonight”.

Almost every refresh of light entertainment and current affairs program has had Nine go for a “Carbon Copy”.

Everybody Loves Raymond had Ray once saying “The TV is the focal point of our lives” Nine’s focal point of their life is to make it identical to Seven!

  8. I thought it was pretty good. There were some aspects that felt like Morning Show and there were some aspects that felt like Kerri-Anne. A good mix of the two which is probably what they wanted.
