Renewed: Luck

HBO's new racetrack drama starring Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte has been renewed for a second season.

HBO’s new racetrack drama Luck, starring Dustin Hoffman and Nick Nolte, has been renewed for a second season.

The series which looks at horse racing owners, gamblers, jockeys and gaming industry players was created by David Milch and directed by Michael Mann. So far it has been stronger in its reviews than the ratings, with a cumulative audience of 3.3m viewers.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the critical response to this beautiful piece of work,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo said in a statement.

The early renewal was expected as the series films at a race track in Santa Anita, California, and needs to schedule production between the horse racing season.

Season Two will consist of 10 episodes and is due to air in the US next January.

Season One will premiere in Australia on Showcase next month.

  1. The Pilot, which went to air in Dec 2011 attracted 1.14m viewers… and much the same when it replayed 29/1/2012.

Are those numbers really worthy of a 2nd Season – I doubt it!!!!. Having viewed the Pilot, I won’t be watching the rest of Season 1 – it was nothing special.

  2. HBO don’t waste time, do they? I figure they are trying to capture Milch’s magic once more, after cancelling Deadwood (although John From Cincinnati was a misfire).
