TEN has acquired a new BBC crime series on Jack the Ripper, titled Ripper Street.
This is the first pre-sale deal for the eight part series, created by Richard Warlow, is set in and around Whitechapel in London’s East End in 1889, during the aftermath of the Jack The Ripper murders. The action centres on the notorious H Division which is charged with keeping order in the chaotic streets of East London.
Currently in production in production in Dublin by Tiger Aspect Productions, Lookout Point, Ripper Street stars Matthew Macfadyen (MI-5, Pride and Prejudice), Jerome Flynn (Game of Thrones), Adam Rothenberg (Alcatraz), Myanna Buring (The Twilight Saga, White Heat) and David Dawson (Luther, Secret Diary of a Call Girl).
TEN Head of Programming, Beverley McGarvey, said, “We were instantly intrigued by Ripper Street, it is clearly one of the most compelling crime stories of all time. The pedigree of both the production team and the cast is very exciting and we’re looking forward to it being a key feature in TEN’s upcoming programming slate.
Julie Dowding, Sales Director, BBC Worldwide Australia, added, “The production pedigree coupled with the star power of Ripper Street ensures that Australian audiences will be treated to a crime drama with a difference – one that will not only captivate lovers of the genre but a drama that will envelop the senses and take the audience there.”
It will air later this year on TEN.

look forward to when it shows on UK TV !!
This will go the way of Law and Order: UK – trialled on a Friday night or Sunday 9:30 slot, bumped to 10:30pm and then eventually never seen again
That’s a pretty big call for a show that hasn’t even finished production. Crystal ball gazing?
I guess it could of been worse 9 could of picked it up. Still kind of feels like an ABC show.
