Ok guys, it’s blatant plug time….

TV Tonight is one of 1024 blogs in the running for The People’s Choice round in the Best Australian Blogs 2012 Competition, run by the Sydney Writers’ Centre.

I’d be very grateful if you would consider registering a vote for the site.

If I’ve ever answered a question for you, helped you find where your show has disappeared to, badgered the networks on your behalf or just kept you entertained with stories -here is where you can give something back!

I’ve always found blog contests tricky, because my site is a mix of news and opinion (rather than just the latter), and there is a necessary whack of news aggregation.

Blog contest judges usually seem to favour those that have 100% original content like mummy blogs, or opinion rants (all of which have their place). I’ve always offered a mix of things -including breaking plenty of stories ahead of News Limited and Fairfax. So the People’s Choice is probably the only shot at any acknowledgement…

The contest also allows international votes, so I’m not getting my hopes up against that kind of loyalty! I might ask Hamish Blake for some campaign tips.

It’s a shame they aren’t based on traffic either -yesterday the site hit a new record of over 83,000 page views in a single day. Most months TV Tonight tallies over 1.5m. And yes the site is still run by one person.

    I have been a fan of TVtonight pretty well since day one… and you are the best. If I could vote more than once I would, because you deserve all the accolades one deserves especially when it comes to your compassion. Well Done David.

  24. David you have my vote. Can you answer a question for me as a one man operation it must take so much of your time. When do you ever get a chance for a holiday? And is this your full time job or a side hobby?

    1. Ryaneco: If Full Time is 40 hours a week then media commentary is actually more than Full Time for me. I work on holidays by putting the site into Hiatus, but it’s never a clean break. There are ratings, comments and emails to address 365 days a year, and news about 364. I share the same passion as you all, and I am very proud to have built up a brand from scratch about 9 years ago. But yes my friends tell me off for the hours I put in…. thanks for the vote.
