Big Brother Up Late coming to GO!

At 7pm it will be "family friendly" but Big Brother will also offer an "up-late" off-shoot on GO!

No surprises here….

An “up late” off-shoot of Big Brother will air on GO! when the Reality juggernaut launches on Nine after the Olympics.

Nine is promising a “family friendly” edition at 7pm, but it remains to be seen how racy a late-night edition will be on its digital channel.

The Up Late series previously hosted by Mike Goldman on TEN was very popular with fans, and included content that couldn’t be screened earlier in the night, including nudity.

Having a late night edition on its digital channel will add to Nine’s overnight network shares, rather than seeing numbers on GO! taper off.

The announcement was made this morning by Nine Entertainment Co.’s group sales and marketing director Peter Wiltshire before key media buyers.

  1. Yesssssss.. bring back Uplate! But it would not be the same without the host with the most 🙂 and we all know who that is.. the incredibly funny, charming and the very talented Mike Goldman! Channel Nine, you know what to do if you the ratings up 🙂 Need we say more…….

  2. Mike Goldman has to be the clear and obvious choice to host, the guy was the spark previously I think they would struggle to find someone as in touch with all things BB as Goldy!!

  3. It really is a no brainer. More hours of Oz programming and the need of (very) big brother fans.

Usually the Uplate is a lot of watching people sleep, but can often be very entertaining…

I will be very impressed if they can sort out a decent live feed, as that is where the true entertainment gold (and forums going crazy and building more of an audience…) will be.

I for one will be waiting… and anticipating.

  4. Big Brother should never be promoted as a “family-friendly” show – thats where Ten went wrong, dumbed it down so much (eg Friday Night Games) that the point of the program was lost. You can’t put a pile of random strangers in a house, poke and prod them, and expect it all to be PG13 happy families.

Up Late is a good idea (bringing back Mike would be great too!), but please, Big Brother… leave your big fat beefy wallet at home this time.

As for BBUK, sadly lost interest after it moved to Channel 5 – not the same without Davina (can’t stand the new bloke).

  5. So the same turgid crud in exactly the same format with zero point of difference from the original. Channel 9 should be ashamed if there weren’t apparently tonnes of easily entertained amoeba out there ready to suckle on it’s garbage encrusted teat.

  6. I’m looking forward to BB this year. I hope it’s not a disappointment. Does anyone know if there’s going to be a time delay or will it be actually live?

  7. This is the best news I have heard since It was announced that BB was coming back I loved up late but I do agree that I didn’t like the quiz parts of it what I saw on update would sometime influence on who I voted for I can’t wait to see it back

@nrc_02 here here well said i 100% agree with everything you said

    @Bogues I am also watching BBUK 13

  8. I think an hour show of edited content for M15+ viewers from 9.30 and then direct feeds from 10.30 would be the best for this show on GO!

  9. Of course, there should be an un-cut uplate show…

Why film people 24/7 then only show all the nice things they say about each other, some of the most interesting conversations involve adult content.

If parents cant stop there kids watching adult content, then thats not BB’s fault.

  10. Wooohoo! The last season on 10 suffered when they no longer had the live streaming late at night from the house.

Thank goodness 9 (well Go) is bringing it back! I wonder if Mike Goldman will return too?

  11. It could work out very well for nine if they get a “best of both worlds” scenario going … The family audience can watch at 7 and more “adult” audience can watch later on GO!
If they get rid of the uncut content, it loses a significan element of what the show is and goes into the territory of not accurately presenting he housemates.

  12. Must admit I’m a closet BB watcher. That’s great news they’re putting on an Up Late type show on GO. I haven’t watched anything on 9 for years so I’ll have to look for the button on my remote again 🙂 I hope they put it up against Ten’s late news which from what I’ve seen so far isn’t worth watching at that time of night

  13. It had to have been a must though yeah?

The point of bringing back BB is for lots of content for digital channels.

I hope they start it at 9.30 or something.

    Being on GO!, why not?

They have NINE and GEM for other stuff.

  14. I agree Sammo360. We don’t want a Big Brother/Quizmania Up-Late show. Get rid of the games and maybe the show can be a mixture of live feed from the house and uncut content.

Hope it starts at an earlier time than it did on Ten. It usually started after the Late News which would usually be 11:15. Hope they start it at 10:30. If Nine wanted the show to help with GO’s Late Night shares than 11:30 is probably too late to make a huge difference. 10:30 start would also be a contrast to Ten’s offering and Seven and Nine’s usual procedural shows.

    1. Think it will be a challenge to relaunch BB as a family friendly show if there is uncut content, even in a later timeslot. Yes technically it’s achievable but I think image-wise Nine will be wanting to avoid the show being tarred with previous brushes. Up Late (assuming it’s even called that) will need a host and some structure with the option for live feeds. The latter is usually incredibly dull, you need to be able to drop in / drop out or have it entirely edited.

  15. I hope they put some effort and funds into it. Even showing unseen clips and conversations from the day that they couldn’t put into the PG timeslot.

  16. I’m currently watching BB UK 13, in which the daily show is shown at 9pm, and is the equivalent of a M rated show (mainly for language and adult themes).

Great to hear that GO! will return the uplate shows though. There goes my sleep for a few months.

  17. Excellent news – I’m really hoping they adopt the ‘Bit On The Side’ late-night format as they do in the UK.

@Sammo360 – I remember eagerly awaiting HotDog’s show when it premiered at midnight, only to find out it was a rubbish quiz-type show. So disappointed!

  18. Hopefully it doesn’t turn out like BB Uplate on Ten, which eventually spawned those horrible late night quiz shows. Anyone remember HotDogs?

  19. Good call Nine … that’s half the problem with BB, you can’t show anything interesting at 7pm, so an Uplate edition is a must!

Personally I hope the Adults Only / Big Mouth show also returns somewhere after dark.
