“Live” means Live on Foxtel Olympics

"If we are not Live, we will not put the Live bug up," Foxtel promises for its Olympics coverage.

Foxtel is aiming to be transparent with its cover of the Olympics, denoted by the “Live” watermark.

Foxtel Olympics boss Peter Campbell said, “If we are not Live, we will not put the Live bug up.

“Even if an event is delayed by 60 seconds it will not have the Live bug,” he told AAP.

The “bug” would also point viewers to other channels when a medal was being decided or an Australian was about to compete.

“If a new sport is commencing or a medal event is on another channel, the bug will rotate and point to the channel it is going to be on,” he said.

“The idea for us is to try and point people to what is happening elsewhere because there is so much choice.”

Foxtel has already released details of its Olympic schedule for its 8 HD channels.

The pressure will now be on Nine to discern any use of Live versus delayed broadcasting.

Somewhat ironically, news of Foxtel’s plans to step up Live coverage is even reported on Nine’s own Wide World of Sports website.

Now that’s real transparency…

  1. Is this like when they use the “Live In HD” watermark when its clearly “Live In Upscaled SD” ?? You know, like 4 AFL games each week.

  2. Transparency would be not having silly watermarks blocking the view. There’s a massive foxtel logo onscreen during the daily show… Why? If I’m watching the daily show it means I have foxtel…
