SBS ONE beats TEN’s primary channel

On Saturday night TEN's primary channel landed in fifth place behind SBS ONE.

On Saturday night TEN’s primary channel hit rock bottom.

It landed in fifth place behind SBS ONE.

It was also less than half ABC1.

Primary Channels:
Seven 22.4%
Nine 18.2%
ABC1 15.4%
SBS ONE 8.0%
TEN 7.2%

TEN was unable to lift beyond the 462,000 it pulled for its 5pm News.

By contrast, SBS was on the rise with Tour de France (330,000) which kept numbers higher until late in the evening, and RocKwiz on 232,000.

TEN has recently leaned on the return of The Simpsons to help its Saturdays, back-flipping on its mantra that “What plays on ELEVEN, stays on ELEVEN” and shifting Before the Game to Thursdays.

The Graham Norton Show, hailed as a remedy for Saturdays, has now ended its season run.

This Saturday TEN will screen:

6pm The Simpsons rpt
6:30pm The Glee Project
7:30pm To Be Advised
8pm To Be Advised
8:30pm Movie: Star Trek (2009) rpt
11:05pm The Good Wife rpt

  1. Unfortunately alot of Aussies have never heard of half the guests on Graham Norton, it really appeals more to an ABC audience anyway imho. Kinda off topic, but i don’t know why no network has picked up Saturday Night Live here? (as far as i remember). Something like that would be a good sat night pick, i am also getting tired of the kiddie movies too. And how many more repeats of Everybody Loves Raymond are 11 going to show?? *yawn*

  2. LOL yum-e 🙂

I quite like the new Star Trek, and I also like Ten’s Sunday line-up (until the F1 at least, that is just plain boring)….

Ten definitely need to try something new though…

Although, being the “young person’s” channel, is anyone surprised seeing as the young ‘uns all head out on a Sat night? 😉

  3. Before The game is a waste mid week. Imagine if it had of been on saturday Night. Carlton beating Collingwood would of been great fodder for Hughesy. It now lacks excitement. They have less to talk about. I just don’t bother with it now.

  4. It’s not like Ten don’t have any new content sitting on the shelf: they’re sitting on new White Collar, The Ex-List, Psych, etc.

Surely showing new programs can’t rate any lower than they are already?

  5. So not even the desperation tactic of bringing over The Simpsons from Eleven has worked.

Saturday night on TV is now an all-round wasteland since the TV stations threw out the action movies like the Lethal Weapon and Police Academy series and tried to turn Saturday night into family and kid’s night with crap like Babe and The Princess Diaries.

Oh for the good old days of having Hey Hey It’s Saturday playing on the TV and getting us in a good mood for Saturday night on the town.

  6. Good, now give ABC2 back their “The Graham Norton Show” there’s a good crappy station :), and everyone knows ‘TBA’ means “The Devil wears Prada”…

  7. Gee, Star Trek – again. TEN buggered up Graham Norton by never starting it at 8.30 when it first started, it was sandwiched between 2 movies and all over the place. And I bet they paid miles more than the ABC for it.

    Ha, ha!

  8. Thinking about it more I can understand they want to increase ratings. Also I’m guessing they thought they’d attract the Star Trek viewers back. I’ll admit it might work somewhat.

Although I’m not sure if I’ll watch it. Because it’s a joke of a Star Trek film. Even though the actors are good. I kind of view that as the stuff up alternate universe of Star Trek including with Spock Prime. Because they all just make things worse or are just the stupider or the juvenile delinquent versions of the original characters. Its fun as long as you don’t care about it. As well as the mess with the timeline if it wasn’t an alternate universe. But that’s my beef. Not everyone agrees.

  9. I’ll note according to this week’s paper TV Guide it says:

    6.00pm Simpsons
    6.30pm The Glee Project
    7.30pm Modern Family
    8.30pm The Graham Norton Show
    9.30pm The Good Wife
    11.30pm To Be Advised

Also on two internet guides they have the one you do except Star Trek is not listed. I’ll admit this is why I often ignore paper guides. But why can’t they plan ahead at least in normal times?

  10. TEN need to be showing the encore of The Living Room on Saturday nights instead of 12noon on Saturday afternoon. Its a great show but does not get the audience it deserves as it is up against NRL and AFL football on Friday night.

  11. Love the picture! TEN do not know how to operate at all. 11 is poorly scheduled with too many repeats and 4:3 ratio shows zoomed in causing terrible picture quality. ONE is a waste of time most nights. Time for and overhaul.

  12. It’s an evening full of reruns and fairy-floss TV, apart from Graham Norton. They don’t *seriously* wonder why it’s not stacking up, do they?

By contrast the ABC almost always has good quality first-run British shows on a Saturday, they actually deserve to do better.

Perhaps they’ll air Prada a few more times as a counter-measure? They’re leaving the possibility open with all those TBAs.
