Where’s Sinbad?

Nine promised to screen UK series Sinbad this year, but it is keeping silent on whether it will follow through.

If Nine is still planning to screen UK adventure series Sinbad this year, it isn’t saying so.

The 12 part SKY1 series began in the UK earlier this month starring Elliot Knight as Sinbad, plus Naveen Andrews and Sophie Okonedo.

When Nine picked up the Aussie rights to the series in March last year Michael Healy, Nine’s Director of Television said, “The Nine Network is pleased to be part of such a great franchise like Sinbad. We look forward to bringing this modern adaptation of the adventurous classic to Australian audiences in 2012. We’re sure this big budget production will capture the imagination of our viewers and keep the legend of Sinbad alive.”

In all its various promos for post-Olympics content, there is no sign of Sinbad to be seen.

TV Tonight asked Nine if it still planned to air the series as promised this year.

They declined to comment.

  1. ch9 do not have the capacity to plan anything much…..they could take a lesson from ch10 and its relative success with Merlin or how ch7 have looked after Downton Abbey…..but they do not build a schedule and keep an audience, they just do ‘event’ tv and when the ‘events ‘ are over the audience disappear

  2. Depending on how good it is, it could air on either Nine or Go after the Olympics, as it started airing in the UK this month and is probably on its 3rd episode.

There’s likely to be Aus reader viewers who’ve already seen the first couple episodes and can chime in on it. I hear it’s good.

  3. TVTonight’s have word “promise” strikes again? When did Nine even promise anything? I think they word is indicated or suggested a show may screen.

Since when do our networks promise anything?

    1. I think the sentence “We look forward to bringing this modern adaptation of the adventurous classic to Australian audiences in 2012” is vastly different to “We look forward to maybe bringing this modern adaptation of the adventurous classic to Australian audiences in 2012.” I did attempt to clarify whether it was still coming but as noted Nine declined to comment. There is still time to screen / schedule, so fingers crossed.

  4. Nein will probably put this show in a 10:30 timeslot next year or shaft it to GO! like they did with ‘Camelot’ last year.

They don’t seem to really expect much from genre programming – I was surprised they gave Alcatraz a prime timeslot earlier this year. And now look at their schedule – The Voice (US) and BBT everywhere
