Will Steve Hooker, the 2008 gold medallist, defend his title in the Men’s pole Vault? He will face stiff competition from Renaud Lavillenie (France), Steve Lewis (Great Britain) and Bjorn Otto (Germany). Our men’s 4x100m relay team is hoping to qualify for the final, while there is gold medal action in the women’s 4x100m relay and women’s 1500m. The standout of the night should be the women’s 5000m, where Vivian Cheruiyot (Kenya), Tirunesh Dibaba (Ethiopia) and Meseret Defar (Ethiopia) bring a host of Olympic and World Championships titles to the battle.

DIVING
Saturday August 11 from 3.55am AEST – live on LONDON 1
Men’s 10m platform: Matthew Mitcham, James Connor (preliminary)
All eyes will be on defending champion Matthew Mitcham as he competes in the men’s 10m platform preliminaries. Mitcham was the only person able to deny China a clean sweep of the diving medals in Beijing, but it will take a superhuman effort to hold off Qiu Bo here. Tom Daley, Britain’s boy heartthrob and 2009 world champion, may be the best chance of holding back the Chinese tide.

Women’s 470: Elise Rechichi & Belinda Stowell (medal race)
Elise Rechichi and Belinda Stowell are trying to claim their second Olympic gold medals in the 470 class; Rechichi tasted success in 2008 with Tessa Parkinson, while Stowell stood on the podium with Jenny Armstrong in 2000. Let’s hope this golden combination can strike it rich again.
