An appeal against a defamation case triggered by a joke from comedian Mick Molloy has been dismissed.

An appeal against a defamation case triggered by a joke from comedian Mick Molloy has been dismissed.

The Full Court of the Supreme Court upheld the ruling in favour of former SA political candidate Nicole Cornes.

Molloy and Network TEN had appealed the decision in July last year which awarded her $93,000 in damages.

Molloy’s remarks had been made on Before the Game in 2008. He later made an on-air apology.

Cornes said today, “To me, this sends a message that you can’t go around making sexist, defamatory comments on national television, then hide behind it being a `joke’.

“This was not a joke, it was a sexist, defamatory comment that lowered a person’s reputation.”
