Just as the third season gets underway on Pay TV, Free to Air viewers will finally get to see HBO drama Boardwalk Empire on SBS later this month.
The series will play as double episodes from 9:30pm Saturday September 29th, and kicks off with the Martin Scorsese pilot.
In January 1920, America is preparing for the onset of a federal law prohibiting the sale of alcohol – but in the hedonistic New Jersey beach resort of Atlantic City, politician and gangster Nucky Thompson is gearing up to exploit the ban for his own personal gain. However, he soon finds himself struggling to keep his former protégé Jimmy Darmody under control – and must also deal with his unexpected attraction to Margaret Schroeder, a pregnant housewife. Martin Scorsese directs the pilot episode of the drama, which stars Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt and Kelly MacDonald.

It’s a great show, very well written, with magnificent production values. I liked season one more than the second season, but just by a hair. Steve Buscemi is terrific. This is a show to watch with a glass of Candian Club at hand.
SBS HD went up to 1080p this year. But it still depends on whether they air HD copies of various programs, or just the SD versions.

SBS simulcasts SBS1 with their HD channel. It’s Channel 30 in the metro areas. I don’t know about regional. Also the HD usually isn’t considered full HD or 1080p. I don’t know exactly what it is but think it might be 720p.
Yes can’t wait for this.
Why double episodes? Why not use the SBS HD channel and show it in HD too. Do they still have a HD channel?
Having read all the reviews for it’s Pay TV run, this is a definite must see! Pity it’s on AFL grand final night as most people will forget to watch/record.
Yep, really looking fwd to this. Something to watch on a Sat night. Not enthusiastic about the double eps but at least I have the opportunity to commit to that from the start, plus I know it will start at 9:30 and not 9:48 or 9:52 or whatever.
This is an excellent series and I’m looking forward to the start of the third season.
I’m quite excited about this – I haven’t seen any episodes, nor do I know much about it, but if it’s anywhere near as good as HBO’s The Sopranos or Deadwood I can’t wait.
Wanna watch this for sure..wonder if we will we get just season 1 on this sbs run or some catch up?
