Here come the Programming launches

Next month Seven, TEN and SBS will present their programming highlights to media buyers and press.

Next month Seven, TEN and SBS will present their programming highlights to media buyers and press.

The Programming Launches, or as they are called in the US, the “Up Fronts,” will begin in Sydney before rolling to other cities, dependent on the network.

First off the bat will be Seven Network. Last year TEN went as early as August, which surprised the market, in order to get the attention of advertisers before other networks. That included statements that The Renovators would be ‘renovated’ and Reef Doctors would premiere this year. It is now held until 2013.

Similarly, Seven promised A Place to Call Home which now also won’t surface until next year.

TEN will also need to impress the market by announcing a new Programming Chief.

Seven
Sydney October 16
Melbourne October 19

TEN
Sydney October 23 The Westin
Melbourne October 25 Crown

SBS

ABC is not expected to hold a media launch this year.

Nine has traditionally held a joint Xmas lunch / Programming launch in late November.

  1. Since TEN hired Lachlan Murdoch as their CEO the station has gone backwards.
TEN needs to axe Breakfast & put kids programs back on mornings & move “I Will Survive” from Tuesday & show it on a Thursday night. Axing the AFL has really made the network suffer in sponsors going to channel 7 & 9

  2. Let’s hope Ten can fix their line up for 2013 up first things first. No more of these train wreck reality TV shows would be a good start, less Reliance on the Simpsons and older Movies and some home grown dramas would be excellent.
How about a relevant for 21st Century Australia Benny Hill/Comedy Company kind of show.

  3. They should really think of putting a ‘sale of the century’ style show on at 7pm each night, get the oldies and young project views hooked (like letters and numbers seemed to do) then 7.30 will have a good lead. Especially when the Block and BB come back next year, the 7pm shows are usually boring/re-caps 3 days a week.

  4. I really hope Ten return before the game next yr but move it from thursdays. Also the studio btg used tonight should be the one the use every week, much more pro looking and much bigger audience

  5. @tmorgan96, I wouldn’t be changing the logo. Regardless of TEN’s current predicament, this logo does have some success associated with it.
In the 90’s, TEN had 3 different logos in a short space of time. There needs to be some brand recognition.
And remember a couple of years ago, when Nine spent a small fortune changing it’s logo and it was a massive fail.

  6. “That included statements that The Renovators would be ‘renovated’ and Reef Doctors would premiere this year. It is now held until 2013.”

So then, anything said at these “launches” should be taken with a remarkably large grain of salt?

  7. I heard rumours that TEN’s launch would be held at KFC, as part of a cost-cutting measure to compensate for Paul Henry’s salary 😀

    Guess they aren’t true then.

Seriously, (no pun) I’m looking forward to what TEN have to offer next year. Hopefully some more Aussie dramas – they have a good strike rate with them. A new logo and some refreshed branding would go a long way as well.

  8. The big question is AGT. I doubt there will be a clear answer given but anything less than a confirmation will raise serious questions. Any other year I’d say axe it without hesitation. But in the current conditions id say ten will snap it up straight away if 7 were to axe it.

  9. I think TEN’s will be highly anticipated. We all want to know how they plan to rebuild.
After all, Seven and Nine are just going to give us more of what’s been successful this year.
