Intruders are go

Big Brother introduces the first Intruder for 2012 in a strategic move to diminish The X Factor.

Big Brother introduces the first Intruder for 2012 tonight on Nine.

The mystery female is described as “a beautiful bombshell” who is “set to shake up friendships, alliances and romance.”

Nine is clearly keen to try and diminish the power of The X Factor on Seven and injecting a new plaything into the BB house is certainly a strategic move.

Last night 30 year old NSW car saleswoman Sarah Wentworth-Perry was evicted from the house after only receiving 18 per cent of votes-to-save. Ray attracted an impressive 50% of save votes and third nominee Bradley had 32%.

Housemates were also finally told there was no “second house” after one of the show’s sneakiest deceptions.

So far Nine’s ratings for the show have delivered in the 7pm timeslot although the Eviction show a week ago under-performed. ABC News may be winning the timeslot as the only serious alternative to light entertainment programming, but BB is winning where it matters in the demos.

Big Brother airs at 7pm weeknights on Nine.

  1. First of all let me indicated something important. Why is Big brother letting the housemates watch more tv then what it is ? They also letting them see what they look like on tv and also they letting them see the intro of big brother theme.. And letting them see new tv dramas (boring stuff) they force them to watch it. So i thought Big brother Show was design not to even have (televisions) in the house. Its design nott to have a time clock.. television radio and magazines. Maybe just one television for special moments. But they letting themsee what they end up looking like on tv.. So its making it out less big brother for them then it is… Which irritates me because the (housemates) are design not to see anything not even watch television… I personaly dont like the way things are going with bb house and that ugly kitchen when inf act we living in 2012 not in the 50. So why are they letting them see them selfs on tv and watch what they do in small parts and also promos to even watch full series of something? Its starting to look less big brother traditionally then what it is today specialy bb in australia in 2012.

Know since ive put that clear on the side i want to say good to see intruder but is this int ruder or intruder(s) more to come ? Also who remembers 2 weeks before bb started and so that silly promo The Block vs Big brother ? and the block said big brother is taking over our time slot with a sad face… but isnt The block actually finished a week before big brother started? so why bother making a promo about it… if the block has nothing to do with bb show.. so confusing with channel 9.

  2. I have nothing against a hot chick entering the house (finally) but it makes you wonder what 9’s promo before the show started was all about…

The existing housemates may not be stunning, but they are annoying as hell and certainly aren’t your normal people… They’re all so egotistical

  3. @SaxyBre84 – intruders in lock down for nearly a month? I’d say they are under strict instruction on what they can and can not say about the outside world. I’d assume they are in lock down for 3-4 days prior to entering

Also – was anyone else really really disappointed with the reveal of the “house 2” to the housemates. I thought it was terrible and made the whole week a waste of time. There we’re a few arc’s they could have taken it to continue the “house 2” concept like bringing a “fake” housemate into the real house in a housemate swap competition etc

I for some reason imagined the house 2 arc going on for some time and as housemates we’re evicted they would discover there is no house 2.

  4. Despite this series being a very poor cousin of prior ones in my opinion, the ratings seem to be holding. From the little I’ve seen though, @andym saying “The HMs are sitting around every day” is about right. In the main, they do seem to be sitting or lying about. They sleep in and life is, overall, pretty darn boring. And still viewers watch because I guess enough is induced to happen to make 30 minutes or more viewing worthwhile.

But I recall the days where there would be challenges and tasks posed all the time, when the housemates had to be up early doing things and when the whole shebang seemed more exciting and purposeful overall.

Either the format is just so good no-one can resist, there isn’t enough competition, or audiences are simply settling for relatively boring television. But, at the moment, 9 has got away with limited spending on the series and still keeping decent audience share. They must be pretty pleased. Would love to see an exciting competitor come along tho!

  5. @ andym Any intruders are usually kept in lock-down before the start of Big Brother. If they do have any knowledge of what is happening in the outside world, they are forbidden to let the original housemates know.

I wonder if Nine will be giving a celebrity Big Brother a go?

  6. I really wish we could have gone a year without intruders.
At the start of the season Sonia promised “less contact with the outside world than ever before”. This is about to be broken by an intruder going in.
The HMs are sitting around every day talking about when they will get an intruder so what better way to mess with them than to keep them waiting… forever! Don’t have an intruder this year and in future years they won’t be expecting them.
It is unfair to the existing HMs having someone with outside knowledge of the series come in, and someone who has not been involved since the beginning. They will know about Surly the fish, the Executive Bathroom, how the show is presented to the audience, and more.
It is also a cheap grab for ratings from the producers. Plus at this stage they get to choose what they think the House “needs”. Ray hasn’t hooked up with anyone yet… quick send in a hot chick for him.
This was a great idea introduced by Australian BB in 2001, but it is not required anymore, and seems to break all the rules of BB.
