SBS, TEN, ABC win at UN Media Peace Awards.

News, Current Affairs and Documentaries were awarded at the UN Association of Australia 2012 Media Peace Awards.

SBS, TEN and ABC were winners at the United Nations Association of Australia 2012 Media Peace Awards, promoting understanding and awareness of humanitarian and social justice issues.

They were presented in Melbourne on Friday evening.

TEN won the News category with Matt Doran’s report, ‘Human Trafficking: Australia’s Modern-Day Slave Trade.’

SBS won the Current Affairs category for a Dateline story by Yaara Bou Melhem (pictured), Geoff Parish & Garry McNab, ‘Revolution: Rise & Fall.’

ABC doco All the Way won the Documentary category.

Matt Doran’s report was also short-listed in the Kennedy Awards for Excellence in NSW Journalism earlier this year.

TEN’s Head of News and Current Affairs, Anthony Flannery, said: “Matt is an extremely talented journalist and a highly valued asset of our TEN News team. “His story on human trafficking is just one example of the exemplary investigative reporting he masters.”

SBS online documentary The Block: Stories from a Meeting Place also received the Best Online Award plus a special commendation in the Special Award categories for the Insight episode ‘Generation XXX’ and Luke Waters, of SBS World News Australia, won the special award for Promotion of Multicultural Issues for his series of reports, ‘Race Game’.

A special commendation was also given to SBS World News Australia Radio.
