Seven worst on the Late List

Readers have spoken on the networks and shows that ran late last week -and it's not good news for Seven.

The first results of TV Tonight’s Late List indicate Seven received the most votes as running behind its schedule.

The results for the week of September 23-39 tallied as 116 submissions from readers:

Seven: 71
Nine: 21
TEN: 14
ABC: 3
SBS: 3
Foxtel: 2
Other: 2

Many of Seven’s entries pertained to shows following The X Factor as running late, impacting on Criminal Minds and Smash last week. Results also indicate an episode of Sunday Night ran overtime affecting Border Security and Mrs. Brown’s Boys.

Results also varied from city to city, as did starting times according to network promos and those on EPGs.

The following results are an average from submitted results with Advertised Time as times stated in Network Promos:

TOP 5
Criminal Minds 26 & 27 Sept. Seven
15 entries
Adv Time: 8:30 / Actual: 8:48 (26 Sept)

Smash 25 Sept Seven
12 entries
Adv Time: 9:30 / Actual 9:51

Mrs Brown’s Boys 23 Sept Seven
9 entries
Adv Time: 8:30 / Actual 8:46

Border Security 23 Sept Seven
6 entries
Adv Time: 7:30 / Actual 7:39

Hawaii Five-0 24 Sept TEN
5 entries
Adv Time: 9:30 / Actual 9:43

Other results were evenly spread amongst network results stated above.

NB: The Late List is a crowd-sourcing trial and is not scientifically conducted. It relies on the trust of readers to resource information. These are the first results, and whilst they may be modest now over time collated data should indicate some clear trends about offending networks and specific shows which never start on time.

  1. Yeah, but 7 is a commercial network and although they shouldn’t advertise times to be late by 40 minutes, they do have to make money by advertising. Also, if viewers tune in for a pro-prime time show, and they tune in during prime time, the networks ratings will go up!

Also, if shows that aren’t produced by the network, the channel cannot control how long a show will last, but just have to accept it.

@bindi I agree! It makes sense.

  2. I’ve been too busy to watch much TV lately (or I would’ve helped out), but wow – I didn’t realise the extent of the problem. Differences of about 20 minutes? That’s no small gap. That’s almost an entire episode of a show.

  3. I’ve mentioned this before. With channel 10 on the epg. On Friday night. Usually after 6pm. Channel 10’s guide is all updated to correct times till monday night. Usually I do all my reminders then so I get the exact times cause by sunday morning it all reverts back to the stock standard times.

  4. I must start by thanking you David for all your good intentions and having our interests at heart. But I must ask Why Should You Have To Devote So Much of Your Valuable Time! “Doing ACMA”S job”? Why does it seem ACMA will only ever be Reactive( and Only After multiple viewers complain, surely Some One in ACMA actually watches TV)? after all this has been going on for some considerable time. Instead of Being Proactive after Their Own Observations of Non Compliance by Broadcasting License Holders.? Why should Millions of viewers be treated with absolute disregard, by only a FEW Broadcasters, who have been allowed to Get Away With For So Long?

Are all at ACMA so well paid, that they All have the Latest and the Greatest Tv’s and recording Gear, and that they simply do not understand what we are talking about, are they all set up so they can programme their recorders remotely, using an ‘ap’ on their Iphone 5.

So in case AMCA( And the TV Broadcasters) can not comprehend that Many Busy Viewers, and most us elderly, have only the Basic of Tv’s using STB’s with limited options and who actually use printed programmes, that are virtually not even any thing like what/when is put air. I have contacted several programme printers and they Blame the TV stations for out of date info.

I ask just who is fibbing because many of these programmes Have Been Advertised on these Stations for weeks. Does this we have record 24/7 to not miss a programme change, just so we do not miss a late running screening?

  5. Like this idea hope it continues. The only thing i would do though is when a program is mentioned it get’s one point but no more than one point. You could have that other figure say in brackets(71).Then you will know how many shows in total each network has gone overtime on

  6. @ William – correct!
It affects TEN, ONE and ELEVEN. This has been going on for six months or more and TEN have failed to identify the problem. The ACMA is now involved as they are breaching guidelines.

  7. I’d be interested to know what shows were late on SBS and ABC. You can usually set your clock by the start time of those shows (live event excepted)

  8. I’ve found Ten to be the worst with updating the EPG. Hawaii Five-0 this week was still saying 9.30 on my EPG.

I really hope the networks look at these result and think about what they’re doing. I’m switching off any network not showing my shows on time. So if they honestly think this practice is going to make viewers stay on the one network they’re sadly mistaken. It’s just driving people away.

  9. No surprise there. Lost count of the amount of programs that follow X-Factor have cut out if I IQ them. I’ve missed up to 1/2 an hour because of XF going over time.

  10. Suits was also at least 20 minutes late last week. I haven’t watched my recording of this weeks episode but I recorded the two shows after it as well so Seven can’t screw me over yet again.

For stuff like Hawaii Five-0, did the EPG still have it starting at 9:30? Usually Ten are pretty good and update the EPG to whatever random time shows actually start, so anyone with a DVR gets the whole thing no problem.

  11. Seven is also the most likely to be noticed because they have the most viewers. If people gave up long ago and abandonned the show they will no longer notice or care. But I do believe that they are the worst offender.
