Audio kaput? Today hosts from Nine News desk.

Video: When they lost audio at 6:40am, the Today show did a quick switch to Nine's afternoon News desk -and hilarity ensued.

It was one of those days on Today this morning, when for the first time in 28 years Nine’s audio desk blew up.

That left the show with no sound forcing Karl, Lisa and the crew to host the remainder of the show from Studio 3: Nine’s afternoon news desk.

Nothing like being spontaneous!

A Nine spokesperson told News Limited, “We had some technical difficulties on the Today Show this morning with the audio deck in Studio 2 breaking down at 6.40am.

“Our production team moved quickly and managed to move the show into our news studios in record time.

“Not surprisingly, the on air team have had tremendous fun with this morning’s hiccups with Georgie giving the glass walls a quick windex wipe and Karl joking with our viewers that it was not so much a technical breakdown as it was a power outage due to all of Dickie’s hair appliances.”

Lisa Wilkinson tweeted:
-Ever wondered what a late night version of @thetodayshow would look like? Tune in now…
-We blame @RichardWilkins He needed a little cable thingummy for office 3-in-1 stereo & then Studio 22 blewup. @thetodayshow #todayunplugged

Maybe they could do more guest-set editions. Any suggestions?

Mornings also had to begin broadcasting from another studio until the problem was sorted.

  1. It’s a great show, but why in 2012 is every anchor and correspondent white? Even here in the states that’s changed. If they want to pull ahead of Sunrise they need to get some color on screen other than the bright yellow. Black faces will lead to a more diverse audience. It is time! Whether Asian, Black, Aborginal descent, Indian, get some damn color within your onscreen crew!

  2. I think the Today show has the balance between serious news and fluffy morning entertainment about right, with most of the presenters very likable. And, yes, I’m one of those who doesn’t mind a bit of mindless Hollywood goss first thing in the morning!

  3. I agree it was an improvement on the tacky orange set. A more newsy type set would differentiate the show and give it credibility. Then just ditch some of those gossip segments. Far out do people actually find entertainment in so called celeb fluff

  4. Haha classic, I saw it this morning when I tuned in and wondering why they’re on the news set. I thought there was a special news coverage which wasn’t announced. The team did a terrific job doing the best they can out of this situation, well done! That’s why I wake up with Today.

  5. It does make u think that a night version could really work.

to mess with 7 they could call it ‘tonight’
then they would have today / tonight.

    confuse everybody 🙂

  6. I flicked over at one stage and thought it was an improvement on the tacky Sunrise cloned set. Was not sure what was going on but thought it was a good idea that Today had an original idea for a change. I am normally a rusted on Sunrise viewer but have to admit to flicking over to Today a bit more lately. Not even sure why but maybe because Sunrise is becomming too light and fluffy and Today now more News related.
