Boss not renewed (but there may be a telemovie finale)

Kelsey Grammer's drama Boss is not returning for a third season but may yet wrap with a two-hour movie.

Kelsey Grammer’s drama Boss is not returning for a third season.

But Starz and Lionsgate TV may yet do a two-hour movie that would wrap up the story.

“After much deliberation, we have made the difficult decision to not proceed with (a third season of) Boss,” said Starz in a statement Tuesday. “We remain proud of this award-winning show, its exceptional cast and writers, and are grateful to Kelsey Grammer, (creator) Farhad Safinia and our partners at Lionsgate TV.”

Despite the critical accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination, Deadline reports its axing was probably hampered by the fact it didn’t have a strong lead-in on a low-trafficked Friday night.

Spartacus now is the only Starz original series so far to go beyond two seasons.

Boss aired in Australia on SoHo.

  1. Great show, great acting. Ohh well i guess the audiesnce will just have to watch crap like My big fat gypsy wedding, or ” hey look i think i can sing” Sad, very sad.

  2. Most of the time these days the touted telemovie rarely happens. It is just a sop to the people involved and the audience, but both of them move on before it happens.

And even when when the TVM is made it is distributed separately and we don’t get to see it in Australia till years later.

Boss had a good performance from Grammer but plot was rather silly. They just introduced unbelievable amounts of violence and crime when ever they wanted something to happen, and then only partially explained it with monologues in the final episodes. Not very dramatically satisfying.
