Meakin has no plans to go

Talk of Peter Meakin's replacement as Director of News and Public Affairs have resurfaced.

Talk of Peter Meakin’s replacement as Director of News and Public Affairs have resurfaced with The Australian speculating that former Today Tonight exec producer Craig McPherson could be next in line.

Meakin’s replacement is a favourite topic of media, almost as popular as those speculating when David Leckie would go. Despite his 70 years, Meakin loves his job and is considered one of the best in the biz.

But his contract runs until mid-next year.

“It’s certainly too early to be negotiating a new contract, in private or public. I have no plans to join the grey nomads and circumnavigate Australia by Winnebago,” he told the newspaper.

“Craig is working with me on a number of projects and it’s great to have his expertise on tap,” Meakin said. “My successor, whoever he or she may be, will be appointed when the time is ripe by my superiors — not me.”

McPherson stepped down from Today Tonight in February, but gas settled in at Seven’s Martin Place studios.

Other names being touted include Brisbane’s Rob Raschke (those rumours surfaced 2 years ago), Sunday Night’s Mark Llewellyn, Sydney news director Chris Willis and Weekend Sunrise producer Adam Boland, still rumoured to be a possible TEN exec.

  1. You’ve gotta love all the succession rumours that are constantly floated.

If I had it my way, I’d choose Adam Boland over the others purely due to the impeccable merit he holds being the brainchild of “Sunrise”, “The Morning Show” and “Sunday Night”. I hope Seven sees it that way.
