Lenard “Len” Mauger, considered a pioneer of television and radio in Australia, has passed away, aged 89.
Mauger was an executive and key figure at ATN7 Sydney and played a major role in putting the station to air in 1956.
He was handpicked by Reg Ansett to launch ATV-0 in 1964, leaving in 1967 to become the “Far East” representative of America’s ABC. In 1969 he replaced Bruce Gyngell as head of TCN9.
He was also one of the founding committee that organised the Television Pioneers Annual Sydney Reunion and never missed attending these events. Sadly, he only missed the upcoming reunion by 14 days.
A funeral will be held on Monday in the East Chapel, Northern Suburbs Crematorium, commencing at 2.30 p.m.

Many exectives of today should follow his example. He will be missed by us who care about our industry.
One of the giants who inspired in his unique style so many talents and exectives. He was one of my inspirations and I will miss him greatly.
A true gentleman and TV Star.
I worked under Len Mauger in the earlier days of ATV0. He was a lovely man, eloquent and well spoken, a popular boss.
