Hopman Cup 2013: guide

TEN's broadcast of the Hopman Cup doesn't match Seven's tennis scheduling via multichannels, and favours Sydney & Melbourne.

hopmancTEN’s broadcast of the 25th Hopman Cup begins on Saturday.

All daytime matches will air Live around the country on TEN.

All evening matches will air from 8:30pm local time in each city, with Sydney and Melbourne to enjoy Live broadcasts from Perth. Other cities, including Perth, will be delayed. Each session is expected to be five hours in duration.

*Coverage of 1pm matches will continue on ONE at 5pm for a final hour of broadcast due to a clash with TEN News, in respective states.

But by not utilising ONE better for other states, TEN’s coverage lags behind Seven’s multichannel broadcast of its Tennis events.

All eyes will be on Perth as TEN officially kicks off the summer of tennis with the 25th staging of the Hopman Cup. Current world no. 1 Novak Djokovic will join a star-studded line-up including Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Ana Ivanovic and Venus Williams in broadcasted day and night sessions.

Australia’s own Bernard Tomic and Ashleigh Barty make their tournament debut this evening as they take on Germany in the first day of play, looking to recapture the title for Australia for the first time since 1999.

  1. So glad Ten have the entertaining commentary of Mark Howard………please give him more coverage then the tossa gossa(ge). Mark is not only entertaining & informative but easier on the eye as well……Oh well I guess I will only be watching 50 % of the coverage, that is the 50% with Mark’s commentary.

  2. Ten’s coverage is much better than the ABC’s who only showed a few matches that didn’t clash with their regular programming and left the rest for Fox.

And it’s better than Ten’s last year when a lot of the matches were only on One, and there was no publicity for them.

  3. Very poor Ten, but that’s to be expected by the network these days. They have absolutely no clue. Night matches especially are the ones that should be live.
Ten doesn’t deserve viewers with this type of crap, and it’s not gonna win viewers back that’s for sure.

  4. Apparently every session of Hopman Cup will be streamed live at the tournament website and the Ten Sport website, so Ten thinks it’s adequate for viewers in WA (where the tournament is held), SA, NT and QLD who want to see the evening session live.

  5. Why not have all games live on ONE in all states? As always everyone not in the eastern states suffer with no live night games. It makes more sense but we are talking about ch10.

  6. The evening sessions should be live for everyone. If ten are trying to win back viewers this is not the way to go about it especially considering that the tennis on seven will be live. In this day an age there is very few excuses for sport not to be live.
