Promising start for Zeebox

Social TV application reaches 100,000 downloads within its first 2 weeks.

Social TV application has been announced 100,000 downloads, reaching a 6 week target within its first 2 weeks.

Users have averaged 31 minutes per visit.

Craig Blair CEO of zeebox Australia, says: “It’s early days but the results so far have far outstripped our expectations. The number of downloads in Australia is many multiples higher than the UK or the US (adjusting for population) proving that Australians actively embrace new, world class platforms.

“More important than downloads is viewer engagement. Our average viewer is spending over half an hour a visit engaged with zeebox. We look forward to increasing our audience engagement as we roll out new channels and features over the coming months.”

So far the top shows are attracting comment are Can of Worms, The Project, The X Factor, Homeland and Nine’s Cricket.

Meanwhile Nine plans to rejuvenate its Jump-In app in February.

  1. Poor Ten can’t get a break – Zeebox issues a press release about how well they’re doing in Aus, and nobody mentions their “major partner”.

(Nobody has mentioned this bit either: “The next challenge for zeebox will be to monetise its growing audience”. Zeebox users, that means selling ads to – or selling data from – you.)
