2013-01-14_1916Seven News will present a special one-hour news bulletin with Peter Mitchell in Melbourne tonight with extended coverage of the Victorian political crisis.

Not sure what this means for Today Tonight. It would seem like an opportune chance for Helen Kapalos to interview Dennis Napthine.

Meanwhile Nine has confirmed a 30 minute bulletin.

With Denis Napthine sworn in as the new Premier and Liberal leader late last night, the extended bulletin will feature expert analysis and reports from Brendan Donohoe, Melbourne’s most respected political correspondent, alongside the rest of the Seven News team.

“With this sort of political upheaval, Victorians need and deserve the best and most comprehensive coverage, and we’re committed to providing it to them,” Seven Melbourne news director Simon Pristel said.

6pm on Seven.

  1. In NSW. Seems this story was flogged to death Wed. night and again Thurs. morning. What can possibly warrant an extra half-hour of “news”?

  2. Not sure about this. We have been saturated all day with this and i am now over it. Unless they can come up with something new, like why Ted really resigned then i agree with @jezza the original one- Yawn. I am more interesested in what 7.30 and Leigh Sales do as they will be more investigative. I will also be looking for Hughesy’s take on it for a comedic view on The Project. Hope they have Aly Wileed on as he was on Lateline or The Drum last night. I never new he was a political lecturer at Monash. His detail on the story was outstanding.

  3. Yawn, its already old news. Just shows how out of touch tv newsrooms have become. Anyone still slightly interested in this would have caught up online by now or on a 24 hrs news service

  4. It will be interesting to see tomorrow’s figures.

These desperate attempts to wring as much as they can out of a big story have always failed dismally for Seven.

Besides, the story was adequately covered by everyone during last night.
