Nine partners with South Australian Amateur Football League

Nine starts the long haul of re-branding in Adelaide by forging grass-roots community partnerships.

2013-07-29_1656Nine is forging community ties in Adelaide as the new owner of NWS9, becoming the new naming rights partner for the South Australian Amateur Football League for the next three years.

As part of the partnership, a new name for the league will be announced at the end of the 2013 season. Nine also gets naming rights of two senior divisions and two Under 18 divisions.

Whilst it may seem like a long-winded way to go about winning back the faith of South Australian viewers, Nine is looking to its success in Melbourne where the tide for Nine News turned against Seven after a concerted grass-roots effort with community events.

NWS9 News Director, Tony Agars, said: “Nine is delighted to be associated with grassroots footy in Adelaide. This is where it all happens with players battling it out at local venues with community support, and now major television network backing.

“Channel Nine Adelaide prides itself on being local and has been part of South Australia since 1959. This further connects us with the community.”

“We look forward to working with the clubs, players and officials to take the South Australian Amateur Football to the next level.”

SAAFL CEO, Grant Goodall, added, “The association with a premier media partner such as Channel Nine is a first for the league and a reflection of the importance of footy within our community.

“It is exciting and commendable that Channel Nine has sought an association with SAAFL, Australia’s largest senior Australian Rules Football League.”

  1. Looks like 9 is taking a similar strategy in Adelaide as it has in Melbourne. Channel 9 is also the principal sponsor of the Eastern Football League. efl.org.au/index.php?id=308
