  1. @wwenrl Wanderers don’t even have 24 000 members, as she said. They have 15 000. Their stadium takes 21 500 people. Obviously you can’t have more members than the stadium allows since membership in the A-league guarantees you a seat for home games,

  2. @Deanna
Im pretty sure the Rabbitohs have more than 25 thousand members. And the NRL’s average is more than the A-League’s.
And yes I do like both, but NRL is a bit better.

  3. Good to see what is ahead for the upcoming A-League season. Happy that there will be a game a week live on fta. Also glad that there will be a highlights show on Mondays, and a ”footy show” on Thursday nights.

Having the game and related shows on sbs2 should hopefully slightly bump up it’s ratings. Im not expecting a big rise, but am expecting a slight increase.

  4. About time this is a national sport and should not be the exclusive domain of pay tv. The A league should be on the anti siphoning list just like the AFL and Rugby league . With crowds averaging around twenty thousand per game the game has come a long way .my club the wanderers has a membership of 24 thousand members more than any rugby league club.

  5. At the same time Foxtel subscribers across Australia would have the Viewers Choice option to choose which of the 2 matches they want to watch Live. Channel 7 and their affiliates do this for AFL matches in all states except VIC/TAS and Darwin? Channel 9 in Brisbane (and WIN /Imparja TV for the rest of QLD) get nearly all the Broncos matches on local free-to-air TV? Channels 10 and Channel 7 use to do this for NBL basketball coverage many years ago! SBS should approach the FFA about this in future if they want to help improve the A-League ratings on their network and get maximum exposure.

  6. I am not sure if SBS2 is setup technically to split program feeds for each state/territory in order for my suggestion to be possible….but here it goes. If SBS and Fox Sports get together to talk to the FFA (Football Federation Australia), they should convince the FFA to schedule 2 matches on Friday nights at 7.30PM AEST (maybe at local time for Perth Glory home games in WA) so that SBS2 can show particular teams that of more interest to viewers in certain states (EG: Western Sydney Wanderers Vs Adelaide United for viewers in NSW/ACT/SA/NT and Melbourne Victory Vs Perth Glory for viewers in VIC/TAS and WA. QLD viewers in this scenario would watch whatever match is determined by SBS to be the better game or of more interest for those watching north of the NSW border.) At the same time Foxtel subscribers across Australia would have the Viewers Choice option to choose which of the 2…

  7. With the possible exception of World Cup qualifiers, the A League soccer, like the AFL in NSW and QLD only has a cult following and will not attract the audience that some are hoping for.

The one thing in soccer’s favour is it is now a summer competition with no competition from the League and AFL, but nevertheless the ratings will not be anything to get excited about. Many may play it, but are simply not interested in it as a spectator sport.
It goes without saying however that Les and Craig will be wetting themselves with excitement.

  8. this is great news Live Friday Night A League on SBS2. Looking very much forward to this. I would have liked it if they also had a Sunday match Live aswell or atleast on a deley similar to the World Cup Qualifiers. I hope the Grand Final in 6 months time is Live also on SBS2.
