Seven’s coverage of the Spring Racing Carnival has been expanded to include Live broadcasts on Seven and 7TWO.

2013-10-15_2219Seven’s coverage of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival includes the Caulfield Cup this weekend, ahead of the Melbourne Cup Carnival early next month.

This year, under a new broadcast partnership with TVN, Seven’s coverage has been expanded to include Live broadcasts on Seven and 7TWO of the Cox Plate as well as the Victoria Derby, Crown Oaks, Emirates Stakes and the 153rd running of the Melbourne Cup.

Commentators and presenters across the season include Bruce McAvaney, Francesca Cumani, Richard Freedman, Simon Marshall, Giaan Rooney, Neil Kearney, John Letts, Hamish McLachlan, Peter Donegan, Pat Welsh, Rebecca Maddern, Joh Griggs, Edwina Bartholomew, Rachael Finch, Melanie Vallejo, Scherri-Lee Biggs and TVN’s Richie Callander and Jason Richardson.

A huge production unit entails hundreds of personnel and up to 50 cameras – around the courses, in tracking vehicles, in the air, in the jockeys’ and stewards’ rooms and on a jockey’s helmet.

  1. You will probably have to go back a few years to see an FTA broadcast of a Sandown race meeting!

But good to have every major horse racing meet on the one channel, not split between Seven and Nine and earlier Seven and Ten.
I’m not sure if Nine still holds the rights to the Magic Millions on the Gold Coast, cause I remember them showing it.

  2. Not in HD?

‘All the colour, blah blah of the spring racing carnival…’

Would be a good test for TVN in HD since the rumors are that they will be part of Seven’s multi-channel set up possibly next year and leaving the Foxtel platform.

  3. Ch 7 have been advertising they will televise every Group 1 race from the spring carnival. That must be every Group 1 except the one on this afternoon!!!
