Cosentino works the Dancing magic

Update: Cosentino tops the Dancing with the Stars scores but there's hope for Sally Obermeder yet...

_03A0343Cosentino may have topped the judges scores last night on the return of Dancing with the Stars, but Sally Obermeder -who came last- can take some small comfort from the little-known fact that those scores have no impact on who goes next week.

But it may take a lot for her to win over the viewing audience.

When a contestant is eliminated next week it will be as a result of the audience votes from this week and the judges votes from next week. Scores given out last night are already in the rubbish bin never to be seen again.

Cosentino and Tina Arena certainly pulled out the more dramatic Contemporary dances of the night in the refreshed Seven show.

Although the judges were getting overly excited by the Stenmark twins. “Drop your dacks next time,” suggested Todd McKenney to one. Errr…..

Helen Richey was also waxing lyrical about their bodies -seriously, if the genders were reversed there would be a public outcry about what’s acceptable on the telly and what isn’t….

Meanwhile new co-host Edwina Bartholomew managed well for her first outing alongside Daniel “Prison Break” Macpherson.

Final scores:

Cosentino & Jessica Raffa 37
Tina Arena & Damian Whitewood 35
Rhiannon Fish & Aric Yegudkin 32
Zac Stenmark & Jade Hatcher 30
Sophia Pou & Michael Miziner 28
Libby Trickett & Dannial Gosper 28
Steve Hooker & Ash-Leigh Hunter 27
Jordan Stenmark & Jessica Prince 25
Jesinta Campbell & Jarryd Bryne 24
Tony Barber & Melanie Hooper 24
Jonesy & Alana Patience 22
Sally Obermeder & Carmelo Pizzino 17

UPDATE: Producers have advised judges scores from Week 1 are added to those from Week 2. This contradicts previous advice from Seven. Apologies for any confusion.

  1. Seven can’t leave it alone they just have to copy SYTYCD esp as it is returning next year…Still won’t watch Dancing as the only person I really want to see is Tina Arena the others…who cares…
As a non regular Seven viewer what is this attraction everyone has to Edwina Bartholomew. Have seen her a couple of times on Sunrise as i was channel surfing & she is nothing special from what I saw.
From what I heard 3 hours is a marathon for any show & there are too many other shows to watch on a Tues night.

  2. Don’t know why ‘Contemporary’ has appeared as one of the dances. So You Think You Can Dance is more suitable for that sort of dancing surely. Enjoyed the show and the new judges though.

  3. I think there are too many judges. I like them all, but it all seems a waste to me as its not So You Think You Can Dance where they want to make a career out of it.

  4. Completely agree with your assessment of Helen. She was creepy!!

It’s obvious from the scoring that getting contemporary was a major advantage – a little unfair as they don’t need to learn the frame and strict movements ballroom require.

  5. How good was Cosentino , a real natural at this type of dance, hope he can continue with all types of ballroom, a pleasure to watch, as was Tina, she too did so well too, could be a tight battle if things go along well like last night..

  6. Are you sure they throw out the scores, every other year the first elimination has added the first 2 weeks scores together to make up 50% of the decision, the public vote the other 50%

I thought the highlight was edwina. She’s probably the best cohost they’ve had, great job for a first timer.

  7. Edwina Bartholomew took to the role like a duck to water. Such a breath of fresh air.

I can’t understand all the fuss over the Stenmark twins, they’re not candy to my eyes.

All in all, it was a good show, but a long one !
