NRL fans in Melbourne and Perth turned to social media to vent their anger at Channel Nine after they once again cut the trophy presentation at the Grand Final.
In Melbourne, Nine switched straight to a The Hangover Part II at 9:15, denying viewers the chance to see the Sydney Roosters enjoy their victory moment, and there was no alternative broadcast on GEM either.
It’s not the first time it happened.
Back in 2002 Nine cut the Grand Final presentation to screen American Beauty. They did it again in 2009 when Melbourne Storm won.
Great win by the Roosters, think we could have seen them lift the premiership cup? Instead Melbourne gets The Hangover 15mins early @NRL

Would it kill Channel 9 in Melbourne to air the Hangover, which has been on upteen times, on say, 10 minutes later to show NRL medals?

Please sort out coverage of games in Melbourne @nrl .. Not fair @channel9 screw us over every time ! Cut off coverage 15 min early for movie
— Lisa (@groovygales) October 6, 2013
Channel 9 Melbourne u are bloody muppets! Why cut off the nrl gf celebrations for a movie that wasnt programmed to start for another 15 mins

Channel 9 Melbourne, what are you doing? Not showing presentation of NRL trophy because you’ve gone early to a rerun of Hangover 2?
— Daniel Sankey (@Daniel_Sankey) October 6, 2013
Once again @channel9 / @wwos9 show utter contempt for Melbourne viewers by cutting the coverage before the presentations. Shame @NRL. #NRLGF

@NicLiv @NRL that was very poor from @Channel9 in Melbourne especially for us Chook fans
— Marni Kelly (@Marni_Kelly) October 6, 2013
@Channel9 Perth, its been awesome seeing @NRL games live this year, but would have been nice2see the entire #NRLGF coverage, not cutting at FT!
— Morgan Jackson (@morgyjaxy) October 6, 2013
@chrislangdon77 no presentation in WA straight to the news….anyone who thinks an NRL team will end up in Perth are kidding themselves

More anger was aimed at Nine’s Facebook page:
You cutoff the coverage in Melbourne to start your movie EARLY! Why do you do this every year?! I’d really love someone to give an honest explanation.
Channel 9 you are a disgrace. We watch you all year, we support NRL and you don’t even give us the respect of showing the whole telecast in Melbourne. We watch shows like the footy show late, watch late telecast because we love the game. Very disappointed. Let’s hope the league wakes up and gives rights to Fox.
Channel 9 Victoria! Seeing the presentation of the trophy and victory lap means a lot to some people and you have ruined it again. Your coverage in Melbourne and bias towards AFL in Victoria is pathetic. NZ Media could teach you a thing or 2
I speak for all rugby league fans in WA it is pathetic that being that today was the grand final and the biggest day of the year for nrl fans!!! And channel nine can’t even play the whole coverage of the grand final! There needs to be a investigation into this as we don’t even know the player of the match !!!!!!
Wtf?! There’s still 15mins left for you to screen the rest of the NRL Grand Final in Victoria. What are you doing?!?!
Seriously Channel 9???? I’m a Storm supporter so we are used to the crap you deal us but I feel for any Roosters fans in Melbourne – DISGUSTING!!!
Boooooo channel 9 from those supporters in melbourne!!!! #shameonyouchannel9
WTF no presentation in Melb. You’re a bunch of flogs Nine FFS
Sick of channel 9 NRL telecasts into Victoria being cut short or played at ridiculous hours. You have 2 affiliate channels…use them! You play the NRL footy show at midnight instead of putting it on Gem at a decent hour!!! You have a strong and growing NRL following in VIC and some of us watch every game of the season whether our team is in it or not. Your cutting off of the post game presentations of the biggest NRL game of the year was just completely ridiculous and short-sighted! Not impressed at all!!!!!
Why stop the coverage for the Hangover, my husband is disgusted that it couldn’t wait the 10 minutes the presentations would have taken! And thanks for hanging up on him 6 times when he tried phoning to voice is disappointment! Channel 9 Melbourne this has happened too many times with various sports
Absolutely pathetic. Cut off the presentations from a great game to put the millionth repeat of the hangover on early. Customers first – I don’t think so.
Nice one Ch 9…well played (you dipshits)
hey channel 9 melbourne, whats the go cutting off the nrl presentation, then cutting me off the phone when i called…if this was the afl final or any other alf game, you’d have never done this….disgraceful, there’s more than one game in melbourne!
Nine has been contacted for comment.

Unless you are in NSW or QLD 9 don’t care. Get used to it.
Surely there would be more ratings in showing the presentation rather than The Hangover
As far as I’m concerned the NRL really needed to adopt a dedicated NRL channel like AFL have done. Big bucks from ch9 at the expense of the fans in many ways. In 2013 the fans should be able to pay to see every game live and without irritating cross promos. Look at the AFL channel. The game is broadcast professionally and you can trust to get coverage in its entirety.
Don’t blame ch9, blame the NRL for making the contractual decisions that they did.
They should demand their money back.
Perthites had the News instead of the presentation but Melbournians had “The Hangover 2” in place of the presentation. Fingers cross this will be the last time we ever get this treatment.
Disgraceful effort to 9 for cutting out the presentations for Perth, Melbourne and Adelaide footy fans.
Is there any chance channel nine will replay the whole grand final and post match?
As a Sydney viewer, That’s ridiculous to here that two of our cities missed out. Compared to
The Seven Network’s 2013 AFL Grand Final coverage wasn’t cut at all in all Aust cities. the Presentation went on. Channel 9 Australia are a big disgrace and should be ashamed. You selfish broadcasters.
Is this the first time ever that channel 9 has started a show early? Could this be a new direction for them.
@stilesy – WIN Vic do their own playout from MediaHub, quite separate to Nine. Now, if WIN still owned STW9 Perth, the cutoff wouldn’t have happened.
What?????????????? Nine didn’t show the presentations in Melbourne and Perth, that is absolutely pathetic. What possible reason can they give for doing that? How unfair for the viewers in Melbourne and Perth. Completely unacceptable, Nine need to be taken to task for this. Take note, NRL, this is how your broadcaster treats interstate fans. Disgusting and unacceptable, it can’t happen again. Fabulous game, by the way, mightiest GF match in years and added bonus, my team won. Woo hoo!!
Typical from channel 9. They treat NRL fans like crap all year.
Isn’t it funny that Channel 9 Melbourne didn’t show the post match presentation, yet here in Regional Victoria on WIN Television, it was shown in full, which surprised me.
I so happy it was not just Perth who missed the trophy they cut it and went to Perth news. If that was AFL news would have waited but because it NRL they don’t care they just cut for news. They don’t say NRL in the news hear home and away season so for once can we get grand final all the way and not cut of
Channel nine are a disgrace for not showing the presentation. Not acceptable.
