Unspoiler plug-in helps avoid those TV spoilers

A new browser plug-in will help reduce the risk of stumbling onto TV Spoilers when you're surfing the web.

2013-10-23_1708It’s always a problem: how do you stop yourself from seeing Spoilers when you’re surfing the web?

Once seen, there ain’t no taking it back.

Now there’s a new plug-in that may be the answer to your prayers.

Netflix recently launched a Spoiler Foiler” designed to excise anything that mentioned the title of Breaking Bad out of a user’s Twitter feed.

Now a new plug-in for Google Chrome users, Unspoiler, makes the idea more user-friendly. Once installed, all you need to do is put in the keywords such as Downton Abbey, Elementary or The X Factor and he presto, a big red block covers up the areas that mention them.

I’ve been testing this across a few sites and it’s pretty neat, although it appears to block headlines rather than excerpts -so it’s not 100% perfect. But you can also set a white flag to appear at the top of a site if your show is mentioned.

I realise there are some readers frustrated by news reportage where they haven’t yet had a chance to view their PVRs. My view is always AIRED = NEWS, but this might help as an interim. Again, it’s better that an individual adjusts their habits as only you know what matters to you most.

You can download Unspoiler here.

  1. I have been wishing for something like this for such a long time! I reckon avoiding spoilers is one of the top reasons why people don’t want to wait months/years for shows to reach FTA and why fast tracking is important.
