Fairfax gives us an insight into Season Five of Offspring, coming to TEN in 2014, with an interview with Kat Stewart, who plays Billie Proudman.

The show picks up from 6 months after the death of Patrick (Matthew Le Nevez).

“I can say that Nina and Billie are living together, which they haven’t done since the first season, and they are co-parenting her daughtthe same core three writers, who we’ve had from the beginning,” Stewart says. “They’ve given us characters to invest in and care about. But they’ve also been prepared to take risks and surprises – and they’re not always the surprises we want.”

Stewart also spoke about the key to making the show a success and dealing with the death of Patrick.

“It comes down to the same core three writers, who we’ve had from the beginning,” she says. “They’ve given us characters to invest in and care about. But they’ve also been prepared to take risks and surprises – and they’re not always the surprises.

“We were very upset doing this as actors, and it was upsetting for people to watch, but death is a part of life. It’s been dealt with in a really sensitive way and it honours Patrick and celebrates him.

“The show will always be different for what’s happened – life changes when you lose somebody – but it still has hope, optimism, humour, messiness and all the things that define Offspring.”

  1. Yeah, I had hoped Bille & Mick would have worked things out and got back together too, especially with Patrick dying, they would realise life’s too short to hold silly grudges.

  2. Friend of mine teaches at Cronulla High and he’s been telling me about Puberty Blues filming. Apparently during some scenes the Cronulla high students have had to sit on the floor while they’re filming in the hallway!!!

  5. Loz, Eddie tweets the other day about shooting season five so he must still be around. I was a late comer to Offspring. Watched the first 3 series over the 2012 Christmas holidays and became addicted. Season 4 was an emotional roller-coaster. Can’t wait for season 5

    I hope Ten screen the second series of Puberty Blues early in 2014. Can’t believe they shelved it for 2013. Having to wait 2yrs to see if Gary carks it or not is torture!

  6. I’m glad its 6mths later. I guess that means that Billie & Mick have really broken up as well… shame. I loved them together. I hope Eddie Perfect is still in it… we can’t lose all the guys!

    Can’t wait for it to be back.
