ABC TV has finally launched an iview Android app for select tablet and smartphone users.

2013-12-17_2019ABC TV has finally launched an iview Android app for select tablet and smartphone users.

Initially the Android app will be available on a selected range of devices supporting Android OS 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above. Other Android devices will follow after user feedback and testing.

“The Android app marks the beginning of an exciting new direction for iview and ABC TV online, with a beautifully redeveloped service set to showcase an outstanding slate of local programs in 2014, commissions exclusive to iview, and full series online for the ultimate binge TV viewing experience”, says, Richard Finlayson, Director of Television.

A new interface for iview is also set to be rolled out, with program recommendations, editor curation, faster access to last night’s TV, enhanced search function, a Watchlist feature, and from early 2014 child-safe security for parental control.

Android tablet and smartphone users will be among the first to experience the new iview design which will be rolled out to the website and iOS app in early 2014, with other platforms to follow.

“ABC iview on Android has been the most requested service since the launch of ABC iview on iPad and iPhone, says Arul Baskaran, Controller TV Multiplatform.

“The demand is reflective of the explosive growth of the mobile internet. More than half of iview’s record 19 million monthly plays are now occurring on tablets and phones.”

  1. I have a brand new Huawei handset with Jellybean, an older LG with Gingerbread, an Acer tablet with ICS and a Telstra T-Hub2…. the app isn’t compatible with *any* of them.

    good going guys
