On summer hiatus I missed Dave Hughes’ final night on The Project last week, so having now seen this farewell I thought it was worth sharing.
“The passion from everyone who works on this show is incredible,” he said.
“I want to thank my mum down in Warrnambool who’s a little bit sick at the moment but always believed in me.
“And I want to thank you guys. Charlie, whose passion for broadcasting is unbelievable. Amazing. His energy every single day is incredible and the show wouldn’t be what it is without him.
“And Carrie who deals with the light and shade like no-one else I’ve ever known.
“They’re amazing and it’s been a pleasure.
“It really has been a pleasure.”

@Trev – A half million viewers is hardly few. Outside of the news, no other commercial channel touches politics in Prime time. The Project is a very important show. TT and ACA dumbs down its viewers where as The Project tries to educate them. We will miss you Ughesy.
Aussie_Austridge: “I used to be a great fan of TEN’s news and current affairs block (including The Project) but then some genius decided to wedge The Simpsons between the news and The Project meaning many (including myself) abandoned the station altogether.”
Aussie, thanks to modern technology you can now press a button on your remote control to watch another station at 6pm, and then press another button at 6.30pm to come back to Ten for The Project. Try it sometime, you might find life becomes happier for you!
The longer the show stays on the air, Trev, the longer the show defies you.
It’s a pity so many people including myself couldn’t watch it because of the roadblock known as The Simpsons. I used to be a great fan of TEN’s news and current affairs block (including The Project) but then some genius decided to wedge The Simpsons between the news and The Project meaning many (including myself) abandoned the station altogether.
News that The Simpsons will once again be quarantined to the badlands of Eleven in the new year brings hope but TEN has shown that it can’t be trusted and regards The Simpsons as a fall back program to be brought back if the main channel is going thru tough times.
And nothing of value was lost.
It may not be pulling huge rating figures but it is by far the best thing on commercial TV @ 6:30 pm. That’s the TEN story though – doesn’t matter how good the product is, if it’s on TEN, it will always rate lower. Would be good to analyse why this is. Congrats Charlie Pickering and Carrie Bickmore – your work is excellent!
Cannot argue with his comments on Charlie when he said the show wouldn’t be what it is without him.
A low rating turkey watched by very few.
Trev: think you’ve made this point a few times now, thanks.
Thanks for that David. I failed to watch it last night too. Sorry to see Hughesy go.
