TV Ratings revamp for 2014

Execs are in for 30 more cliffhanger minutes of anguish as 8:30am ratings are pushed to 9am next year.

2013-12-10_2140TV executives who have been hanging by their fingernails for television ratings at 8:30am every morning are now in for another 30 minutes of anguish.

From next year, OzTAM will release the data at 9am, but in doing so it will offer both Overnight and Consolidated (timeshifted) numbers.

OzTAM indicates it has completed infrastructure upgrades to process both for its metropolitan Total TV data.

For example, at 9am Wednesday morning it will release overnight date for Tuesday as well as Consolidated data from the preceding Tuesday. Until now it has delivered Overnight data at 8:30am and Consolidated data at 3pm. The current method dates back to the start of OzTAM in 2001.

Subscription TV data will continue to be available at 9:30am each day and will also include Consolidated data with the Overnight data.

Any talk of merging metro with regionals for a single national number is still some way off in the distance although OzTAM CEO Doug Peiffer recently indicated, “Technically there are some math reasons why you can’t do it. But I think we’re heading towards a national panel eventually when the Reach Rules change and consolidation happens in the marketplace.”

OzTAM hopes to make the change to 9am data release by mid January.

  1. Perhaps OzTam should use the Late List on this site as a reference for releasing the data, so 9am shifts to 9:12am and so on, depending on how punctual the networks were the previous night.
