New-look WBBL season for Seven

A 40-match regular season and a new domestic women's T20 competition coming this summer.

Cricket Australia has announced plans to grow women’s cricket with a reduced 40-match WBBL|10 regular season, matching the new-look men’s BBL season, plus a new domestic women’s T20 competition.

It will be broadcast live on Seven and, for the very first time, 7plus.

Seven’s Head of Network Sport, Lewis Martin, said: “With the upcoming WBBL and BBL seasons, paired with a men’s five Test Series against India and the highly anticipated Women’s Ashes, the 2024-25 summer of cricket on Seven and 7plus will be one of the greatest yet.

“Mirroring the men’s new-look BBL season – which saw Seven’s audience grow on the previous summer – WBBL|10 is set to deliver big crowds, big viewer numbers and even bigger performances to households around the entire country. It’s going to be massive.

“In every discussion and decision together with Cricket Australia, the viewer remains at the forefront of everything we do and we look forward to working together to deliver another awe-inspiring, star-studded WBBL season,” he said.

“In what will be a huge game changer, Seven will launch the summer of cricket on 7plus, on Thursday, 19 September when the Women’s T20 side face New Zealand, giving all Australians live and free digital access to the nation’s favourite summer sport, all summer long. It’s all about every Australian having the best opportunity and access to the sports they love, live and free on Seven.

“On behalf of Seven, I would like to thank Cricket Australia, led by Chief Executive Officer, Nick Hockley for their continued support.”

  1. This will be better than the previous 59 games that we had before , it was way too long and dragged out , and the Women’s cricket will never get the viewers and crowds that the men does. On a different note there is no such thing as the Women’s Ashes , this is a woeful term that has nothing to do with the history of the Ashes that started in the late 1800s.

  2. I applaud 7+ for live streaming of cricket. Back then, fans can’t stream coverage for free on mobile and tablet devices. Even when 9 previously had the cricket, people had to pay to watch the sport live on the app. But when Fox/7 took over, people had to pay to stream coverage live on Kayo. Unfortunately, the 7+ blocked the live cricket stream & instead had the cricket scorecard or repeats of border/The force. But with the new broadcasting deal coming in effect in under 5 months, we will be able to stream cricket live & free.
And bear that in mind, 7+ will enable full access to live streaming of afl which will go into effect from the 2024 Grand Final.

  3. “It’s all about every Australian having the best opportunity and access to the sports they love, live and free on Seven” <- If this is the case why don't we see all games played including one dayers on Seven and Seven Plus?

    1. You will see every cricket match that will be broadcast by 7 on 7+.

That’s all Women’s International matches (T20, ODI, Test), ALL men’s test matches, 34 of the 44 BBL matches & 23 of the 43 WBBL matches.

Obviously they can’t broadcast the matches they don’t have the rights to
