Kochie disagrees with Seven’s Corby deal

Updated: David Koch says no. Mark Llewellyn says no way to $2m.

david-koch-bbSunrise co-host David Koch is against Seven paying for a multi-million dollar deal with Schapelle Corby.

“I reckon we should have nothing to do with her as a network,” he said today.

“Bit late for that,” Samantha Armytage replied.

“I totally disagree with paying a convicted drug smuggler $2 million,” he continued.

“I know Indonesia is corrupt and all that sort of stuff, but she is convicted. So why pay the money?”

But Armytage said she was curious enough to watch.

During a Cash Cow giveaway Koch also asked a viewer, “How would you like to win some Mega Cool cash without spending time in an overseas jail?”

Updated: Meanwhile Seven News sports presenter Jim Wilson also tweeted on the veiled Corby accessory yesterday, which some have suggested was in place to protect Seven’s interview exclusive. Given his wife Chris Bath is host of Sunday Night, another tweet followed an hour later that was less harsh.

  1. @Mac
Seeing Kochie has chimed in, wouldn’t it be more likely to be ‘Mastitis’ and I am not taking this comment the slightest titbit further.

  2. Listening to Scot Morrison and Mr Abbott’s stuff ups when dealing with the Indonesian government ( or is that not dealing with them) and now Kochies corruption slur against all ” Indonesia”.??

I wonder how long before the over 3 years of the monotonous B/S of ” We’ll stop the boats” by Mr Abbott and Co, will have to be suddenly changed to ‘We’ll stop the Indonesian Warships’ at our Sovereign Borders, that is if someone can find the bloody things?

  3. Gotta agree with some on here – this seems as staged as WWE, lets have an ‘internal war’ about this Corby stuff and make sure the story is out there and people know where to come to see it.

7 aren’t stupid, they are taking ownership of Corby and driving it now – “yeah we know it rated poorly on 9”, “omg i am totes outraged” lol gotta be the biggest “work” (to use wrestling parlance) ever!

  4. As I see it, they are going to pay Corby $2m, but for what?
An “explosive, never before seen expose”?
C’mon, she’s not going to give away any secrets, or blame anyone for something she didn’t apparently do.
All they are going to pay for is an explanation of what it is like to live in a Balinese prison.
Not worth $2m in my opinion.

People will still watch, much to my chagrin.

  5. The thing is Schapelle has to be careful what she says. She cant bag the indonesian government or prison system because she will be back in there. So im not sure how much we will get. In 4 years when she can leave Indonesia she may reveal more. Hopefully in 4 years she isnt a story again.

  6. Curiosity always kill the cat ! Whether we say we do or not we always end up watching, Here’s to a Sunday night that will rate through the roof !!
I for one hope the $2 million translates exactly as it is to audience numbers 🙂

  7. Networks should report on whatever is news…facts…unbias…we dont need or want their opinions…
    @ WolfieBoy…big statement….who knows what is lies etc…not me…and I bet not you…unless you have inside information.

  8. I am more offended by the comment …. “I know Indonesia is corrupt and all that sort of stuff,”

Really and you would know that because all Australians are so honest!

What an ignorant remark, i cant believe people watch this dribble.

  9. If Aussies want to send a message to the media, tney should switch off any channel that features Corby. Glad she is out now but please do not pay her millions for what may well be lies and bulldust coming from her mouth. 🙁

  10. Not assuming one way or another as to Schapelle and/or of any of the Corby family’s guilt or innocence because I like many others ” should not know unless we were actually involved in this offence” , so as it stands she was found guilty and has almost finished serving her amended prison sentence.
So I now ask, good ole ‘two bob each way’ David Koch, has network seven ever paid convicted persons previously, and if so? did ‘two bob each way’ David Koch raise exactly the same objections in the same public forum?

Able to stay on topic because of the Cash Cow give away inclusion, how does Mr ‘pure as the driven snow’ Kochie feel about all ‘his and Sam’s ‘ promo’s that have and are still stating that ” we are giving away $1mllion” and is that a guarantee that they ‘will give away $1million’ during this weeks current give away, and if ‘ he and Sam’ do not give away…

  11. I suspect this interview will rate through the roof. People say that they don’t care about this and they’re over it and all the rest of it but we’re curious souls. I’ll be watching.

  12. Regardless of innocent or not, the media has had too much of a say, Leave her alone and get on with making good TV, not endless conjecture about what she is doing and stop showing her family hamming it up for the cameras…..so obvious set up. I am at the stage now as soon as she is on I change channels and then usually turn off.

  13. this would have to be encouraged by 7, interest in Corby is waning, they need to drum up a lot of controversy and disgust about the interview itself. even if people dont care about corby they’ll watch just to see how the controversial interview is executed.

  14. First time I have respect for Kochie but I think he was on safe ground as he knew 7 would not take him to task because many others would be saying the same thing

  15. Gotta agree with Kochie on this one. When you look at the ratings on ch9 for SC associated programmes its a risk. Most folk I know accept her as a convicted drug smuggler and nothing else. This could damage ch7 a little, I hope it flops
