One Plus One: Suzi Quatro

Suzi Quatro tells ABC News 24 next year will be her last ever tour of Australia.

2014-03-05_2109Tomorrow night ABC News 24’s One Plus One‘s Jane Hutcheon sits down with 70’s icon, Suzi Quatro.

In a candid interview Quatro, now 63, reveals that next year, will be her 51st and final Australian tour (note to self: must get tix).

She talks about the thrills and spills of her upbringing in a large musical family living in Detroit. It was the time of Motown and Elvis and Suzi was inspired by the great performers of her youth.

Then, the gutsy little girl in leather was nabbed by famous music producer Mickie Most, moving to London where her star rose further.

During the interview, Suzi looks back at archival video from her first tours of Australia in the 1970’s and discusses her immense fondness for Australia.

She also tears up when Hutcheon asks her about a sense of failure at the end of her marriage to guitarist Len Tuckey.

“My Mum taught me no matter what, the marriage is for life…from the time I knew I’d fallen out of love with him… I tried for six years to make it work. I tried everything and eventually I (realised) this is not going to work. And it broke my heart, it did.”

  1. Will have to catch this one on iView. I also last saw her a few years ago and had a great time. Will be grabbing some tix too if she makes it across the Nullabor again.

  2. First album I ever bought was Can the Can. Saw her years ago at Dee Why so will join you David in getting tix for her last show here. Hope there’s one at the Enmore.
