New US sci-fi series Helix has been renewed for a second season, after just completing its debut run.
The Syfy series, which stars Billy Campbell as a pathologist investigating a virus outbreak in the Arctic, has been renewed for 13 more episodes.
Bill McGoldrick, from Syfy, said, “Helix has built one of our most loyal and consistent audiences in its first season on Syfy. The incredibly talented writing and producing team have crafted a thriller that consistently delivered suspense, twists and high quality drama.
“We look forward to growing this passionate audience in what promises to be an even more memorable second season.”
The series has averaged 2.1 million US viewers but with Timeshifted pulls the largest increases ever for a Syfy scripted series.
It airs in Australia on FOX8.

Thought Helix would have been cancelled.
See being rubbish doesn’t matter if you are cheap enough.
I found the first episode rather intriguing but thought it would end after one season. I was gonna let it build up all the episodes so I could watch it one go.
I lasted only three episodes. Did not like it at all. If I want to see trouble in snowy conditions I’ll watch “The Thing”.
I’ve enjoyed the show, but it would be nice to see something wrapped up in one season instead of dragging it out. The virus will have to spread beyond the Arctic if it’s going to sustain interest.
Is it going to turn into “Lost: The Arctic Circle” where we never see any resolution to anything in the show?
