Returning: Talking Footy

Luke Darcy will host Talking Footy for 2014 replacing Bruce McAvaney, screening Live on 7mate.

2014-03-06_1131Luke Darcy will host Talking Footy for 2014 replacing Bruce McAvaney, with the show to air Live on 7mate at 7:30pm Mondays, with a late night replay on Seven.

He will be joined by Tim Watson and Wayne Carey. AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou, who recently announced his impending retirement, is also off the bench as a regular.

Talking Footy first aired back in 1994, and with its in-depth analysis of football it set the weekly football agenda for a generation of fans as well as establishing a new benchmark in sports programming on TV.

It returned for the finals series last year with original host Bruce McAvaney back in the chair.

With Talking Footy filmed at Seven’s Docklands studios in Melbourne, the Adelaide-based McAvaney has elected to step away from the role in 2014.

Mondays 7.30pm Live on 7mate and replayed at 11.30pm on Seven from March 17.

  1. Great to see Talking Footy !

I don’t care if it’s on seven mate, a repeat later on Seven will be a good time to catch up on the weeks highlights

  2. I was hoping that Bruce would be the host, but Luke Darcy is good media performer. It’s good to see the show is airing nationally in a good time slot.

  3. Poor mans On the Couch, and up against AFL360. Pass. I doubt 7 will shoot the games in HD, which sucks but what do you expect from FTA. And Darcy could they not find anyone dumber?

A.D. should make 7 shoot the games in HD, or the next CEO should, otherwise take away some blockbusters from 7 until they do.

  4. Is the first episode 17th March because I can’t see anything scheduled for next Monday?

I think its a good idea having the episode early in the evening on 7mate. Something other to watch than MKR. I will give it a try if I remember but I find footy classified better show. I’ve noticed its scheduled at 9.40pm next Monday. It would be great if it could keep that timeslot.
