MKR winners Bree May and Jessica Liebich_resize.jpgMy Kitchen Rules “The Winner Announced” has pulled the biggest audience of the year so far.

It hit 2.6m viewers last night as South Australian mums Bree & Jess were declared the champs over WA friends Chloe & Kelly.

Another 2.3m viewers watched the bulk of the show “The Grand Final.”

The biggest audience was in Sydney where 732,000 watched the announcement of the winner over 722,000 in Melbourne and 461,000 in Brisbane.

‘The Winner Announced’ was down on 2012’s 3.13m viewers, but that aired on a Sunday at the earlier time of 6:30pm. Nevertheless, last night it was no contest in the ratings game.

Seven network share was a whopping 42.8% then Nine 22.9%, ABC 16.6%, TEN 13.8% and SBS 3.9%.

Seven’s other numbers were for Seven News (1.23m / 1.19m), Home and Away (1.1m), Intelligence (697,000) and Million Dollar Minute (586,000).

Nine arguably did not put up a fight against the MKR battle, running minimal new content from 7:30pm. Nine News was 1.17m / 1.05m, then ACA (907,000), Big Bang (897,000 / 893,000), Mom (677,000), Hot Seat (674,000), 2 Broke Girls (479,000) and Movie: Crazy Stupid Love.

ABC News (951,000) topped ABC1 followed by 7:30 (837,000), Foreign Correspondent (715,000), New Tricks (675,000), What’s Your Story? (507,000), and At the Movies (400,000).

TEN Eyewitness News (661,000) led TEN then The Project (507,000 / 422,000), NCIS (504,000), NCIS: LA (491,000). Jamie and Jimmy’s Food Fight tanked at just 262,000.

Insight (179,000) led SBS ONE then Antiques Uncovered (178,000), SBS World News (143,000) and Dateline (121,000).

ABC2’s Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom topped the multichannels at 306,000.

  1. Ha ha everything produced in our country is full of flaws and unprofessional compared to other countries! Hey, let’s keep calling it “A Different Style” lol

  2. It’s not a question of sophistication. I just prefer not to have my intelligence insulted by over-produced constructed reality dross that treats it’s audience like simpletons.

…and no, there’s actually almost 12 million other ‘sane’ people in major capital cities who didn’t waste their time on this lazy mindless rubbish.

  3. So @barrington bumbaclaart is the only ‘sane’ person in Australia perhaps. Anyway, I am one of the 2.6 million in major cities who enjoyed the finale. Please stick to your ‘sophisticated’ shows and leave the rest of us to enjoy what we want to watch. It’s a free world after all!!!

  4. Considering the so called story orginated in Woman’s Day I’d take most of the so called secrets with a grain of salt. I’m pretty sure Woman’s Day trot out a story about MKR being fake every year. womansday.com.au/entertainment/tv-films-and-books/2013/3/mkr-uncut-its-all-fake!/

  5. God the internet is flooded with those 10 things Mkr Producers don’t want you to know stories. Finally people will realise how crap and staged this show is.

  6. @ditto, hahahahahaha!! Great suggestion, thanks! Should help me cope with MKR withdrawals!

@timmydownawell, I read today that Chloe and Kelly were watching last night’s final with their families at a hall somewhere and they fled in tears when they realised which of the endings that was filmed began to pan out last night. It must be really a bizarre feeling to film two endings like that, then being kept in suspense since last December when filming wrapped, until last night.

  7. @ barrington bumbaclaart I tend to agree, or I wonder why people find it so interesting. i love cooking, but find the concept quite unappealing. At least Restaurant rules had more benefit to the community.
    @ DanR I also agree
@ neat121: I stopped watching something on the PVR and it was still going at 9:10. over 90 mins dragged it out Plus Resurrection is usually on a Tuesday so those fans would not have bothered. 7 tend to kill ratings for many a drama with erratic and inconsistsent scheduling

  9. I haven’t watched this season since the first stages… but I happened to switch to Seven just in time for the judging.

As I watched, I contemplated the process of recording the two potential results, with the teams, their friends and families all jumping for joy as they ‘won’, with gold confetti streaming down on everyone and smiles all around… and then sweeping it all up, setting it up and repeating the process for the other team. Must be kinda surreal.

  10. @ The Moops – no need to wait 9 months for the next series..
Just watch Come Dine With Me every night for 6 weeks.. then watch MasterChef every night for 6 weeks and voila you have MKR!

  11. Congratulations to Channel 7 and the producers of MKR for last night’s ratings triumph. Now that was a masterclass in how you put together a reality show Grand Final! Absolutely gripping contest last night, the two best teams were pitted against each other which made for a real head-to-head tussle. It was very entertaining and really well filmed and edited. Now comes the long nine month wait until the next series

  12. In 2012, MKR finale was on a Tuesday and the ratings were similar.

My Kitchen Rules – Winner Announced Network 7 2,675,000
My Kitchen Rules – Tues Network 7 2,186,00

  13. So much for all the fans boycotting the show! Goes to show that response on social media is not a good reflection of the entire viewing audience!

I must say I didn’t care for either of the contestants though. I would have preferred the Surfer Dads or Tassie Girls to be in the finale.

  14. Have to agree with everyone about the timing of the final show, think it would have pulled more viewers on a Sunday but still good figures, they may change things next year, will be interesting to see.

  15. It’s interesting that the bulk of the show figure is up by about 150,000 on last year but the winner announced is way down which may well be because of the later finish this year.
