The Great Australian BBQ hosted by Mike Goldman and Liz Cantor is a fund raiser for Meals on Wheels in Queensland, but is under consideration to become a 22 episode series.

Chef Alastair McLeod, former Rugby League player Billy Moore, and author Dominique Rizzo will judge six teams each comprised of 2 amateur chefs and 1 assistant, as they cook off against each other using only barbecues.

Teams will be put through their paces with three one-hour challenge rounds, in which they will be required to cook using beef, lamb, and seafood. At the end of each one-hour round the judges will be presented with the dishes and score them out of 10. The team that accrues the highest combined score will be deemed the winner, and BBQ Master.

Meals on Wheels CEO, Debra Tape, says “We were inspired by the passionate barbecuing culture in the US, where hundreds of barbecue competitions are held across the country each year, but no one BBQs like an Aussie so we can’t wait to see the results when we throw some local larrikins into the mix.”

Saturday May 3 at 12.30pm on 7mate.
