Next month SBS premieres New Worlds, a lavish new mini-series set in England and America in the 1680s.
Produced for Channel 4 in the UK as a follow-up to the 2008 drama The Devil’s Whore, it stars Jamie Dornan and Australian Alice Englert.
In the turbulent aftermath of the English Civil War, King Charles II’s tyrannical rule has led to a climate of violence and fear in England and her American colonies. Amid the chaos, four young idealists fall in love as they commit to forging a fairer future with blood, passion and urgency, but to achieve this, they must be prepared to pay the ultimate price.
From the producers of the award-winning series, The White Queen, New Worlds stars Fifty Shades of Grey’s Jamie Dornan, who is also known for [edit] The Fall, and Australia’s own, Alice Englert (Beautiful Creatures),
This compelling series also includes Joe Dempsie (Skins, Game of Thrones), Jeremy Northam (The Tudors), Freya Mavor (The White Queen) and Eve Best (Nurse Jackie).
Episode One :
At Fanshawe House, Angelica Fanshawe, now Countess of Seacourt, strives to protect her daughter, Beth, and Catholic husband, John Francis, from a country once again on the brink of chaos. But when outlaw and idealist, Abe, breaks into Beth’s sheltered world, he jolts her into consciousness. Meanwhile, in New England the colonists struggle to throw off the distant but steely control of the English Crown.

Yeah, shame they aren’t going to first show the previous (mini) series.
SBS showing some great overseas series. Was the original series ever shown in Australia?
Despite it’s brilliant young cast it wasn’t a patch on The Devil’s Whore I’m afraid. Prepare to be underwhelmed.
