David Tennant, Olivia Coleman returning to Broadchurch.

Key cast from Season One of Broadchurch are all back for Season Two.

broadchAfter months of speculation ITV has confirmed David Tennant and Olivia Colman will all return for the second series of Broadchurch, which begins filming in Dorset shortly.

Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, who play Danny’s parents Beth and Mark Latimer, will also return, alongside Arthur Darvill as local vicar Paul Coates.

Tennant also reprises his role for the US adaptation, Gracepoint.

Producer Richard Stokes returns along with director James Strong, who will be directing episodes one and two of this new series.

But no details on the new script by Chris Chibnall have been released.

“We’re delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we’re remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops,” said ITV’s Director of Drama Steve November. “Suffice to say Chris has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series.”

“The reaction to Broadchurch from UK viewers has been incredible,” said Jane Featherstone from Kudos. “So we’d like viewers to enjoy the new series knowing as little as possible about what’s to come and for the story to unfold in real time.”

ITV press release notes, “More Broadchurch news will follow soon to ensure the media are kept informed of specific developments, but we’re appealing to the media to avoid revealing any spoilers beyond this.”

This is definitely one show ABC will need to fast-track to Australia…

  1. I’m a bit surprised – yet pleased – that both leads will return. I thought they’d figure out a way for one to, but 2 might be asking a bit much. A lot could depend on how they explain this.

  2. Oh good….hope they can retain the standard of the 1st series…
Friend in the US loved it also….but had great difficulty with Mr Tennants Scottish accent…I sent her the link Mr Knox included in another story for Gracepoint and she is happy to watch and pleased they seem to have kept to the original story for US version.

  3. That’s great news that David Tennant is back. All speculation up till now has suggested he wasn’t returning, including he himself not being able to figure out a way for his character to be there.

Not a murder this time, perhaps? Some other serious crime would mix it up enough to not be rehashing too much.
