Rumour: More jobs to go at WIN?

WIN Television is believed to have given Operations staff in Wollongong their notice.

win-tv-logoTV Tonight is hearing whispers of more job cuts at WIN Television.

13 Operations staff in Wollongong are believed to have been given 3 weeks notice, some of whom have been there for over 30 years.

It’s understood only 3 will remain after having to re-apply for the remaining 3 jobs.

WIN did not respond to enquiries at the time of publication.

It’s a tough time in television news with TEN and Seven recently confirming job cuts.

Update:  A WIN spokesperson said  “The WIN Network has redeployed more than half of the staff affected as part of a general restructuring of operations into other areas of its business. The move is designed to ensure the efficiency of the network in delivering key services to its viewers in a constantly changing media environment. As part of the move, some staff members have accepted a voluntary redundancy package.  Recent speculation about our news bureaus in Queensland is inaccurate and completely unfounded.”

  1. For a company that claims to be the biggest broadcaster in the country, they are sure screwing their viewers over.

As someone who spent many years living in regional areas where Win broadcasts, I can say that their bulletins already leave a lot to be desired. That’s not to necessarily a reflection of the people that work there (although sometimes it is), but a lack of resources, and the fact that most of the bulletins are already hubbed, and the playout system is full of faults.

The media industry in this country is well and truly in the S bend, and we have the bean counters to thank for it.

  2. As the line in “Where have all the flowers gone” when will they ever learn.

I just wonder why the public will now have to put up with more shoddy work and presentation now that people are being made surplus to requirements. Is it all just for the bottom line ?

Having been in that situation my sincere feelings go out to those people.
