Sarah leaves MasterChef, but opens up the field.

Losing a Reality TV favourite isn't all bad, when you consider how it levels the playing field.

2014-06-13_0030Whenever a Reality TV favourite leaves the competition in a shock elimination it invariably sends the audience into turmoil.

Last night MasterChef lost 27 year old Sarah Todd, easily one of the favourites in the competition, if not the top contender.

Sarah competed against other skilled contestants Colin and Tracy after being part of a losing team challenge on Wednesday night captained by Byron.

But after a 60 minute cook-off she served up raw chicken which the judges declined to even taste.

There were tears in the kitchen when she was given the grim news that her time was up.

But while her dishes and personality have served the show well, previous Reality shocks have been great detours for their shows, because they throw open the field. As Matt Preston reminded us, MasterChef has lost plenty of strong talent (Marion Grasby anyone?), several of which have gone on to greater glory regardless.

MasterChef is serving up a much-improved season in 2014 and will forge on with or without the excellent talents of Sarah, who should have a bright future should she pursue her ambitions.

  1. Maybe she’ll get to cooking eventually, but she’s recently signed with a new modelling agency.

Go Colin/Georgia/Laura/Tracy. Hope Amy isn’t far off elimination.

  2. @catherine – just because we didn’t see it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. You’ve been sucked in by the editors who are interested in sustaining the audience right through to the end of the episode rather than having people switch off because it’s obvious what’s going to happen.

  3. @ Bruce Banner – it wasn’t just Gary, George and Matt drooling over her!
In our house, she was called “Notjusta” as in not just a pretty face.
For what it’s worth I think Amy will go close to taking out the prize.

  4. I think the winner will come out of the following:
Tracy, Kira, Tash, Georgia, Laura, Ben, Brent.
Dark horses would be Colin and Jamie.
The rest I tend to discount, especially Byron(nice guy, but not a great cook)
